WiP: Star Trek e-Reader cover

For Christmas, my mum got a e-reader. She loves Star Trek specifically Spock. Taking these two things guess what I am making her from Mother’s Day – yep, a Star Trek e-reader cover.

Pattern: I am using a pattern by Atkinson Designs – the Reader Wrap. It is pretty easy and quick to put together. You will probably have materials left over.
Material: Black Essex Linen for the spine. Two Star Trek themed Fabric from JoAnn. All material either had Pellon Shape Flex or Pellon Peltex Ultra Firm.

Baking with Citrus: Orange Lightening Muffins + Lemon Buttermilk Pound Cake

This weekend,  I took two recipes I previously posted and made a couple of modifications. These modifications were so well received the boys have almost eaten it all in 24 hours.

Modification one was using the Orange lightening cake recipe and making Orange Lightening Muffins. I made the recipe exactly the same but instead of putting it in the cake tin, I placed it in a muffin tin. I baked them at the same temperature – 325 degrees F, for 30 minutes.

The second modification was to the Vanilla buttermilk pound cake, making it a Lemon buttermilk pound cake. I switched out the vanilla essence using one lemon.

  • grated zest of 1 lemon
  • heat lemon for 10 seconds in the microwave and add to the mixture the juice from the squeezed lemon.

Everything else was the same including the Lemon icing.

Weekend of small finishes

I am very happy about this weekend’s progress; although, I did not exactly stick completely to my March project goal list. I did have fun which is the most important thing.

A couple of weeks ago, I showed off my first paper pieced kiwi….that has now been transformed into a completed cushion for our grey couch/sofa. To keep the theme of the cushions going, I used the same spoonflower fabrics (designed by Holli Zollinger) I used for the bolster cushion, for the envelope back of this one too. Here’s the great addition:

The next two projects rose from the triple zipper pouch (TZP) finish and trying to put ideas together for new stock (targeted for Western Wakes Farmers Market Craft fair in May). I made a pencil case, out of the same fabric I used for the TZP. This resulted from a mistake when I cut the fabric the wrong direction, based on the pattern, for the TZP….but it worked perfectly for this little pencil case (measures ~9 in. x 3.75 in.).

How could I ignore the “Is that for me, Mum? Where’s my case/pouch?”. So, the second project along these lines was for a single zipper pouch for my son. I love this fabric, it is so fun and great for a boy. It is “Blue Newsprint Circus Elephant” by Nancy Wolff for Kokka Japanese Fabric for the outer fabric and “Yellow Chervon” by Riley Blake for the inside. The pouch measures ~ 9 in. x 10 in. .
