Clashy Bright Mosaic Entries

Rachel over at Stitched in Color is running another mosaic competition in conjunction with Marmalade Fabrics. I so enjoyed the last one, as I am always seeing colors combinations I can translate into fabric selections. This time since the goal is to look at bright, high volume colors, and she has some great photos for inspiration in her post.

This is my first entry:

Tulips_Netherlands

which is based on this amazing photo of flowers in the Netherlands (I am thinking tulips). The vibrancy has been one of my favorites for a while now and I am thinking that this would be a great striped quilt.

The second entry is inspired by a bright tiled wall of randomly placed tiles. I decided that I really liked the idea of an entry with pre-dominant solids which are the bright tiles and then the lower volume, less bright tiles being of prints.

Both of these photos, I found via pinterest and are on my design board. I hope you all will go over and take a stab at creating your own mosaic…have fun!!

After a little more playing around, my ultimate solid collection, I would probably chose, to represent the tiled wall is:

Mosaic contest finalist

I was so ecstatic and surprised this afternoon, when I received an email to say I am one of the ten finalist for the Mosaic contest. Voting is open now. I hope you go and take a look @ Stitched in Color.

It was my second entry that was chosen. It was based on the colors used for this Buqshan hotel in Khaila – Yemen (Photo by Eric Lafforgue). It was one of the first images, I added to my pinterest design photo. The vibrancy is breath-taking.

Representing this with fabric – this was what I came up with:

I tried very hard to use a different bundle for each fabric (except of course the solids), so I thought I would put together the list so folks can find them if you are interested.

Materials were top left –> Bottom right:

Mosaic Contest @ Stitched in Color

I have never entered in a mosaic contest, however, I just saw this contest at Stitched in Color. I love everything about color; mixing it up and pulling fabrics from different lines to produce a wonderful palette to work with,  this gives me that creative outlet.

The contest labelled Sweet Contrary, it is about using warm vs cold colors. It is sponsored by Lark Cottons. I decided to give it a try and here is my first entry….

My first fabric choice was the Joel Dewberry Aviary 2, Sparrows – Lilac. I love this fabric and I based the rest of my choices to go with this piece. I chose green and teal for my cold colors and the lilac/plum and yellow for my warm colors. Lastly, I added grey’s as a neutral.
