Give-away Day: Hawthorne threads Gift Card/Books

Hi All! I love this day each year, the opportunity to give back to the community and say thank you. So thanks to my followers old and new.

For those that are new, you can also find me on Instagram (IG) – ml_wilkie. I have been quilting for 3 years and have loved that I can combine my STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) background and my arts side. I discovered through Quilt Design a Day,  modern quilt designing is definitely my favorite aspect of quilting. Many of my quilts are my own designs.

This has been such an amazing year from finishes and success. I hope you take some time to look around. The mosaic above shows my finished projects for 2015 – they can be found in the menu above.

Onto the give away!!….I wanted to make sure that I give back to all those who supported me through the year. So, this giveaway combines two things that I love:

  • Fabric – $50 gift card to Hawthorne threads
    hawthorne_threads_200_225
  • 3 books I have enjoyed lately (sent via amazon)

I would like one of your books as I really want to learn “out of MY box” patterns! I am so structured and tailored and specific….I want to let go and do something with some wild colors or quilt squares! I just dont know where to start!

I’d love to find a way to go faster. I sew new projects weekly, but the quilt I’m working on is nearly 18 months old and still not finished!

I’m wonder how, in working on a modern design, you deal with bias/straight of grain issues. Do you plan out your cuts to avoid bias? Ignore it and hope for the best? Some combo?

I have no academic knowledge about design – I try things out and do what looks good to me – so I would like to learn some facts about design.

I would love to learn how to be more comfortable putting fabrics and colors together. I tend to stay within the same collection on each project because I don’t trust myself to mix things up.

I would love to learn more about free motion quilting. I love to follow @earlymoringquilter on Instagram. Her quilts are amazing!
