I decided to participate in two swaps before Christmas, the Festive Mug Rug Swap and then the Schnitzel and Boo Mini Quilt. It is my first time participating in a handmade project swap, but I was super excited and eagerly waited for my partner assignment.
Festive Mug Rug Swap
I immediately knew I would use my paper-piecing gift tag pattern (see on the right, free to download) for mug rug. These are the final goodies that was sent to my partner. I love this perfect fabric line for some fuzzy cutting of the Santa’s Elves (Robert Kaufman).
Schnitzel and Boo Mini Quilt Swap
This one took me a while to work out, what I was going to do, but I wanted to try a new skill – sketch stitching to applique shapes. I had also been talking with my friend Daisy, about making an improv. hippo quilt with a low volume background. So, those two ideas resulted in this….
I added some straight line quilting to the background, then appliqued the hippo. I think the sketch stitch went pretty well and happy with the final outcome.Ā I love how the black and white binding to finishes off the quilt.
For the back, I used this much loved hippo fabrics (Puti de Pome, So Happy, Hippos) from my stash and added some hanging corners.
Let me know if you are interested in the hippo template and I can provide it. Linking up with Amanda Jean over @ Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it up Friday.
Too cute! Yes, please, I would love to have the hippo template. I think he would be adorable on a bag or just about anywhere!
I love the hippo idea of applique sketching. It’s so cute too. I really love it, you’ve started a new trend, I am thinking. cdahlgren at live dot com
I would love the hippo template. Whenever I would ask my son what he wants for Christmas he would start singing “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas”. Thanks!
My goodness, you sent along some wonderful goodies with the mug rug! The hippo mini turned out great – the applique sketching adds a bit of fun detail.
You made someone’s Christmas, I suspect. Love these small items, quick and fun to make, even more fun to receive!
I love your hippo quilt, what a great idea with the applique and low volume. Love the backing too. I love it when everything works out so extra cute.
That hippo is just fantastic š So cute!
Both are so cute! I love the elf tag, I have some of that fabric and keep thinking of making some stockings from it. The hippo turned out great, I love the colors you chose for it!
I would love to have the hippo template!! That block is the cutest thing……
Hippo template?? Please!!! My daughter would flip for a similar mug rug!!!
The hippo quilt looks great. I follow you on IG and don’t think I had connected the hippo quilt with you of QDAD. š My schnitzel and boo mini is one of my qdad designs, just needs to be bound!
