Hi All! I love this day each year, the opportunity to give back to the community and say thank you. So thanks to my followers old and new.
For those that are new, you can also find me on Instagram (IG) – ml_wilkie. I have been quilting for 3 years and have loved that I can combine my STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) background and my arts side. I discovered through Quilt Design a Day, modern quilt designing is definitely my favorite aspect of quilting. Many of my quilts are my own designs.

This has been such an amazing year from finishes and success. I hope you take some time to look around. The mosaic above shows my finished projects for 2015 – they can be found in the menu above.
Onto the give away!!….I wanted to make sure that I give back to all those who supported me through the year. So, this giveaway combines two things that I love:
- Fabric – $50 gift card to Hawthorne threads

- 3 books I have enjoyed lately (sent via amazon)

Thanks to all who left a comment. Fantastic suggestions and I had fun reading all the comments. Drum roll….the WINNER is:
Erica – Erica I will send you an email shortly to get all your details for posting the books.

Choosing colors! Thanks for the chance to win.
the best aspect of these giveaways is finding new people to like and follow – I have just discovered you via this giveaway (a generous one at that) and I love what you create and share with others to create.
I’m a follower and would love seeing what Laurie Simpson is up to!
thank you for the giveaway. Would love to see more ideas for modern quilt patterns
I have been enjoying your blog for some time now, and I appreciate your original sensibility – anything you write about is interesting to me – thanks for your contributions to my world and looking forward to 2016!
I’ve been drooling over your QDAD posts, and you’ve really shown how to move from “reality” to design. I’ve been wondering–do you make a block when you’ve got shards of color–or are they inserted somehow into the background (like the Wheels Turning post in October)?
Modern quilts are what really float my boat – the quirkier the better!
Maths are the biggest reason I’m not designing my own quilts yet.
I really enjoy following Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl. She’s got a really modern aesthetic, generously shares lots of helpful tutorials, and this year she’s been making the most amazing mini mini quilts. I always get inspired or learn something new from her. Highly Recommended!
Using negative space
I’ve never made a quilt before, so I have a lot to learn!
Finding the right inspiration for a modern quilt design!
I have never tried design, scares me! mostly the math !
I love Hawthorne Threads Blog. It’s full of ideas and free patterns for sewing clothes and home furnishings as well as quilting. The photography is fantastic!
Improvisational curved piecing techniques would be really interesting to me =)
Thanks a lot for the chance to win!
Great giveaway, thanks! its not super-exciting, but quilt math is often tricky so some math tips for figuring out cutting sizes, yardage requirements etc would be helpful.
I just started following you on IG (live your work!) one of my fave Quilter’s to follow is @libselliot
Picking the color scheme.
I need to learn more about color!
Great giveaway! I want to know how to actual design a template that can be downloaded and that process. I have made tutorials with photos but would like to actually get the design in a professional form maybe add a blank color sheet and then make the templates so others can download(buy or print) thx
I am already a follower. I think LibsElliot is fun to follow on IG
Translating the pattern/design into fabric requirements is something I’m interested in. I love seeing the quilts you design. Thanks for writing a great blog!
I really enjoy following Salty Oat.
I read the comments to get some ideas and I loved the one about the templates. How to actually design a templates with seam allowances included and all.
Thanks for a chance to win. More use of negative space.
Your designs are beautiful.
It just seems that everyone has quilting tips, so I would be interested in yours. Thank you for sharing!
choosing colors and what really is low volume are my topics of interest.
I love to design my own quilt patterns- I just wish I could sew as fast as I can design!
I started following via bloglovin, today!
I need to know how to balance composition and color so that a design “works”! I like the structure & puzzle solving aspects of quilting. However, I’m not sure how to go about making something that’s not traditionally symmetrical…
Thank you for your generous Giveaway prize! I love Hawthorne Threads’ fabrics.
I need to know the math tricks so that everything comes out perfectly!

I’m still fairly new at FMQing, so tips on filling in space, how to choose designs/etc is what I would look for 🙂 Thanks for the great giveaway. Merry Christmas.
Tips of following through – I am great at picking colors and patterns, but then I fizzle out!
I also struggle with transferring design into fabric requirements. I would love to learn how to estimate better.
I would really like to learn an easier way to paper piece sew. I would like to see more patterns that are for plus sized women. Thank you for the giveaway! janicelashley@gmail.com
