I had a 12 hour layover recently in San Francisco, on my way to New Zealand. I decided that I would go into town and visit the MOMA museum. It has always been one of my favorite places to go in San Francisco and it was amazing. I was so inspired.
I thought I would share with you all some of my favorites over the next two posts (breaking it up due to the number of photos). Let’s just start with the architecture of the actual museum. I love the atrium of the museum.
The art, especially the Fisher Collection works are amazing. I saw great pieces I knew from Ellsworth Kelly, Donald Judd, Josef Albers and Frank Stella but also was introduced to some new artists like Gerhard Ritcher and Sol LeWitt. Here’s part one:

The Typeface Interface exhibit was amazing!! Unfortunately everything was encased in glass which gave off a reflection in all the photos.
Tomorrow, I will post some more of my favorites including the Ellsworth Kelly pieces. Ah-Ma-Zing could not believe these pieces could be even better in person!!

Michelle, thanks so very much for your tour of SF Moma! My son is an artist living in SF and has had pieces exhibited there, in brief shows, over the past few years. I plan to visit him this winter (to get away from Maine winters!) and get him to show me around the Moma. Such great photos with some amazing patterns! Something quilty going on in NZ?
I foresee we’ll be seeing a few quilts out of these images… I especially like the dimensional ones where shadow helps to make the image 3D.
I love getting inspired by art museums. These are great pieces.
