This week has been an exciting time for our Quilt Design A Day group, especially exciting for Anne. Anne presented a great presentation on the “Quilt Design a Day: Discovering Your Creative Process”. If you are a MQG member, you can find the recording here.
Now, just as a reminder we are having a couple of challenge weeks at Quilt Design a Day. Last week started a shapes challenge…its finished up here this week, and followed by the beginning of the Medallion quilt design challenge.
7 August: Challenge Day 5 “Triangles” – Pennants
This design is based on the international numeral pennants (0 through 9).
Based on feedback from the group, I added orange which I really like a lot. The second design I did for Anne to show the same design in prints.
8 August: Challenge Day 6 “9 Patch”
The inspiration or challenge today is to use the 9 patch block in the design. I deconstructed the squares and made scrappy blocks in prints of that are representative of the above color palette.
9 August: Challenge Day 7 “Star” – Tapa Star
This is an older design that I reused for the star challenge and played with this color palette. I would not usually use this palette so it was good to play and see what came from a new palette.
10-13 August: Medallion Challenge Day 1 – 4 (to be continued next week)
I had seen this cool black and white circle rug recently at either West Elm or CB2. I was thinking what a great idea to incorporate. Why not a circular Medallion quilt and what if some of it was bias applique.
That’s it this week. I am really looking forward to seeing how the medallion quilt turns out.
Love your nine- patch design
I’m really enjoying seeing all your designs. To almost every one I say “Oh, I’d like to make that”!
