Give-away Day: Hawthorne threads Gift Card/Books

Hi All! I love this day each year, the opportunity to give back to the community and say thank you. So thanks to my followers old and new.

For those that are new, you can also find me on Instagram (IG) – ml_wilkie. I have been quilting for 3 years and have loved that I can combine my STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) background and my arts side. I discovered through Quilt Design a Day,  modern quilt designing is definitely my favorite aspect of quilting. Many of my quilts are my own designs.

Onto the give away!!….I wanted to make sure that I give back to all those who supported me through the year. So, this giveaway combines two things that I love:

I am just beginning to dabble in quilting but would like to try something besides the usual block patterns. So starting from the beginning would be what I need!

I don’t really have any specific tips… other than have no idea where to start for a modern quilt. I love them, but I have a challenge picking out fabric and staying with a few colors. I’m the ‘if it looks like a crayon box exploded’ I love it kind of quilter!

Thanks for this awesomely generous giveaway! The books look intriguing, and of course the chance to buy more fabric is always wonderful. I am interested in learning more fairly easy free motion fillers for all the neutral space on a modern quilt. I love that space, but my free motion skills are only average.

I love any tips about creating a design! I feel I’m not super creative, but I do well at slightly adapting or just flat out copying other peoples creations, and make them better sometimes 😉

I would love to learn more about colour theory/fabric selections. It’s truly the difference between an okay quilt and an AMAZING quilt.

I’d like to learn more about patterning and marketing. I’d also like to actually begin to write a blog that people would find interesting or valuable.

I would appreciate hint, shortcuts and tips on finishing quilts–preferred battings and thread, binding, and backing, for example. Thanks for the opportunity!

I would love hint and details on prepping the quilt top for quilting. This is where I mess up and everything goes downhill….

I always enjoy reading your posts about the way a particular design evolves, how you decide to explore or discard an element of your design.

one of my favorite blogs is Mary Corbet’s needlenthread. The pseudonymous Mary has a very deep knowledge of embroidery, which she shares in hundreds of video tutorials, project guides and other informative materials. She also writes the most trustworthy reviews I have yet come across in the blogosphere.

I love reading about how quilters pull fabrics for a quilt- I have a very hard time narrowing down my choices and deciding what works best together!

I would love to learn how to quilt all the negative space in Modern quilt designs on my domestic sewing machine so it actually enhances the quilting design.

I would love advice on color combinations. I see bloggers with unexpected color combinations in their modern quilts that work so well together.

I’m clueless about how to start designing my own from scratch. I typically look at what others have done and make some modifications to suit what I’m doing.

I would love to design my own modern quilts, but would like to learn how to do that without investing in expensive software.
