Hi All! I love this day each year, the opportunity to give back to the community and say thank you. So thanks to my followers old and new.
For those that are new, you can also find me on Instagram (IG) – ml_wilkie. I have been quilting for 3 years and have loved that I can combine my STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) background and my arts side. I discovered through Quilt Design a Day, modern quilt designing is definitely my favorite aspect of quilting. Many of my quilts are my own designs.

This has been such an amazing year from finishes and success. I hope you take some time to look around. The mosaic above shows my finished projects for 2015 – they can be found in the menu above.
Onto the give away!!….I wanted to make sure that I give back to all those who supported me through the year. So, this giveaway combines two things that I love:
- Fabric – $50 gift card to Hawthorne threads

- 3 books I have enjoyed lately (sent via amazon)

Thanks to all who left a comment. Fantastic suggestions and I had fun reading all the comments. Drum roll….the WINNER is:
Erica – Erica I will send you an email shortly to get all your details for posting the books.

One of my favorite blogs and IG users is Skip To My Lou…she is so creative! duchick at gmail dot com
I am just beginning to dabble in quilting but would like to try something besides the usual block patterns. So starting from the beginning would be what I need!
I don’t really have any specific tips… other than have no idea where to start for a modern quilt. I love them, but I have a challenge picking out fabric and staying with a few colors. I’m the ‘if it looks like a crayon box exploded’ I love it kind of quilter!
I would love to know how to make a quilt from start to finish. I am especially scared on how to bind.
Thanks for this awesomely generous giveaway! The books look intriguing, and of course the chance to buy more fabric is always wonderful. I am interested in learning more fairly easy free motion fillers for all the neutral space on a modern quilt. I love that space, but my free motion skills are only average.
I follow your wonderful blog via Bloglovin. I also like the Exuberant Color blog. Thanks again!
Thanks for the wonderful giveaway! I’d love to win the gift card to Hawthorne Threads. 🙂
I’d love to know what the different kinds of batting are & how to choose the right one for your project.
I need help figuring fabric requirements …. especially for unique designs.

I follow you by email and IG, AMD I QLSO LOVE @suzyquilts, for her fresh style!
I love any tips about creating a design! I feel I’m not super creative, but I do well at slightly adapting or just flat out copying other peoples creations, and make them better sometimes 😉
I would love tips for shortcuts,
I follow via email.
I like tips on how you start design. Image in a dream or your head or what?
I love to see people come up with new ideas!
I would love to learn more about colour theory/fabric selections. It’s truly the difference between an okay quilt and an AMAZING quilt.
And I follow on bloglovin!! Thanks for sharing!
I’d like to learn more about patterning and marketing. I’d also like to actually begin to write a blog that people would find interesting or valuable.
I follow you on WordPress. A blog I really enjoy is “OccasionalPiece–Quilt!”
(occasionalpiece.wordpress.com).
How to add FMQ that adds to the design without making me crazy. 🙂 Thanks for this chance!
I really need more help with machine quilting!
I want to learn more about using negative space in modern quilts. Thanks for the giveaway!
I follow through bloglovin.
I follow you through bloglovin. I like Hawthorne Threads and Fabricworm on IG.
I would appreciate hint, shortcuts and tips on finishing quilts–preferred battings and thread, binding, and backing, for example. Thanks for the opportunity!
I’d love to see tutorials for modern quilts. I struggle where to begin on a modern quilt!
I am terrible at figuring out fabric requirements – tips on that would be great.
I actually haven’t quilted in a long time. I’m sure I’m rusty. Maybe I can start small. A placemat maybe?
I would love hint and details on prepping the quilt top for quilting. This is where I mess up and everything goes downhill….
I would love to combine hand-quilting and modern designs — there’s more to explore here!!
I would like more information on how to blend fabrics from different lines.
I always enjoy reading your posts about the way a particular design evolves, how you decide to explore or discard an element of your design.
one of my favorite blogs is Mary Corbet’s needlenthread. The pseudonymous Mary has a very deep knowledge of embroidery, which she shares in hundreds of video tutorials, project guides and other informative materials. She also writes the most trustworthy reviews I have yet come across in the blogosphere.
I enjoy Sew Katy Did, another Modern Quilting blog.
I’m interested to learn more about free form piecing.
I love hearing about the decision making process.
I’m a follower — I also like reading Stitched in Color.
I love reading about how quilters pull fabrics for a quilt- I have a very hard time narrowing down my choices and deciding what works best together!
I just started following on bloglovin– I like reading Stitched in Color (just like the Sarah wo just commented!), Ants to Sugar is another blog I really like.
My biggest problem with designing is the math and figuring what size to cut the pieces.
I’d love any tips and tricks!
I would love to learn how to quilt all the negative space in Modern quilt designs on my domestic sewing machine so it actually enhances the quilting design.
Love to see different ideas for quilting modern quilts.
I would love advice on color combinations. I see bloggers with unexpected color combinations in their modern quilts that work so well together.
I’m clueless about how to start designing my own from scratch. I typically look at what others have done and make some modifications to suit what I’m doing.
I have been soooo behind with ready all my blogs and IG feeds these last few months… I feel like I’ve forgotten which ones are my favorites!
I would love to design my own modern quilts, but would like to learn how to do that without investing in expensive software.
