Friday Night Sew Along: A night of backs (+ Winner)

instagram-2
I made a huge amount of progress last night and finished two backs for two of my quilts. Do you every think your backs could be quilts on their own and its sad that folks don’t get to see them as much.

I feel that way about both of these finishes. First up, the back of the “Neighbourhood” quilt is complete. It was made with the Oakshott cottons scraps from the front and Dottie, Cotton and Steel. Each of the blocks in the middle are 5″x 7″, so they are small.

Neighbourhood Backing

I think it complements the front well.

The second back, is for Bjorn the Bear. It uses another of Juliet’s (from Tartankiwi) patterns, an Angled Bear Paw Print. I loved the Feather River Bear print and so totally want to use it on the back, and thought it would look great with the bear print in an off white and rust colored solids.

BjornBear Backing

I love it!! Here’s a reminder of the front. The pattern for this 30×30″ bear is now in Juliet’s Craftsy store.

Both of these are on my must finish list this month, but again I will elect the Neighbourhood quilt as my A Lovely Year of Finishes for this month.

Progressing nicely

Last week, I was starting to freak out with all the UFO’s / WiPs I had on my list. Well….I can honestly say I have made a big dent into the list.

When I stress I make lists….this was my list last week and I have now completed the crossed out items.

  • Finish “Neighborhood” Quilt – top, baste, quilt and bind (this will be my main goal for August for A Lovely Year of Finishes)
  • Finish “Spoonflower Sampler” Quilt – baste, quilt and bind,
  • Finish “Phased Circles” Quilt – baste, quilt and bind,
  • Finish testing a paper piecing pattern – piece/top, baste, quilt and bind,
  • Project 1: Finish two other projects (they are a secret for now ;-)) – cut, piece, top, baste, quilt and bind.
  • Project 2: Finish two other projects (they are a secret for now ;-)) – cut, piece, top, baste, quilt and bind.

My WiP and a small finish, is that the Neighbourhood quilt top is complete. This has been made with Oakshott Cottons and Kona Oyster…. Onto to quilting!!!

I plan to take a long weekend to focus on quilting some of my quilts…so there maybe complete finished projects this week!!

High hopes for vacation projects

I had high hopes for completing a slew of projects on this vacation. Unfortunately, they were dashed, not by the usual reasons but for running out of fabric. Can you believe that!!

Here is what I did accomplish, which definitely will put me in good stead for upcoming weeks (please excuse the photos as I did not have my usual settings or choices in the beach house we were renting).

Spoonflower Sample Quilt
This was actually the one finish I really had. I finished all 9 blocks for my Spoonflower Sample quilt. That means all my classes are prepared for the Modern Block series I am doing at Spoonflower.

Sample Quilt Blocks Complete
Just the white sashing to add and then onto finishing the whole quilt!!

“Neighbourhood” quilt
One of the designs I liked from the first week of Quilt Design a day, the Neighborhood quilt, has been sponsored by Oakshott cottons.

Oakshott-ButtonI was actually able to make a start on it yesterday, and I am already 1/2 way through making this mini quilt (32″ x 34″). The fabric colors are amazing and I am surprised at how well it sew up without too much fraying. I totally understand the love of oakshott cotton now.

“Phased Circles” quilt
As mentioned on Wednesday, the back is almost complete but I ran out of 1 print + Kona white 2.5″ strips.

Paper Piecing Testing
I am super excited about this pattern, I am testing. It took a little while but all pieces are cut and glued….ready to start!!
Paper Piecing Testing

It’s a wrap. That is all the progress and 1 finish I made this week. So, overall not too bad, if I do say so myself. Linking up with Amanda Jean @ Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it up Friday.
