On Sunday, I had a stark realization that I might have a “quilting attention deficit disorder”. I was asked to do a member spotlight at our MQG. I was pulling out stuff to show and realized I had a large number of WiP’s. I made a decision that my WiPs are an important part of my process and embraced them. I think, I like small and different projects so that I can learn new techniques or fine-tune a skill, hence the # of WiP’s. My WiP’s include my first attempt at making a modern block, paper piecing, EPP, first QAL, my first quilt design, first strip improv blocks, and first mod mosaic blocks.
How many WiP’s do you have on the go? Are they all different? Why are they WiPs (I get bored too quick or distracted)?
Here are the WiP’s I shared.
- Orange and Grey Quilt: These blocks were my first blocks I ever sewed up. I have not done anything with them since last November – this is supposed to be a King Sized quilt….I have 50 or so blocks to go. Most of the fabrics are from Spoonflower.com, Designer: Holli Zollinger.
- Hexagon Quilt (EPP): I have been hand sewing this quilt since May, I have about 7 rows + corners to go for a lap sized quilt.
- Tula Pink QAL: I am so far behind in this QAL. I have done the first 9 blocks….I am thinking of making only a lap quilt with these. The fabric is Summer House used in these blocks.
- NZ bird Quilt (Paper piecing): A lap quilt using Juliet@ Tartankiwi’s paper piecing patterns, 3 down, 6 to go.
- Medallion Quilt: I am using this paper piecing block from I Patch Quilt pattern as the center block for a medallion quilt.
- This Way, That Way Quilt: My first quilt design, 4 blocks done, 20 more to go for a Twin sized quilt that needs to be finished for Christmas.
- Neapolitan Quilt: Another possible Christmas gift. I really wanted to do coated candy from “Sunday Mornings” Book but wanted to make it my own so I came up with this design. I made up the first block this weekend. This could be a nice quick project.
- Through the Shattered Looking-glass: A new design I had come up with, that had been in my head for some time. It uses a technique from oh! Fransson – Mod Mosaics which I tried out in the improv block class I had a couple of weekends ago.
So, you may be wondering how the member spotlight went…after all, I mostly had WiP’s and a few design/design ideas to show (some I have not shared here yet). I think, I got a great response from my guild based on the feedback. I really enjoyed sharing and talking about the learning curve and process I have taken over the last year since I started. I would definitely do it again 🙂
Linking up with Lee over @ Freshly Pieced for WiP Wednesday.
For the EPP Hexagon Quilt:
Amazing WIP ….loving the colours in the Tula Pink…beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I love them too :-)…I am not a flower person but I love the colors of the line and makes it what I like.
LOVE those birds!
You did awesome at guild! Engaging and interesting. 🙂
Thank you, you never really know. 🙂
i LOVE all of your WIPs! you are so talented, friend – and i don’t know if I could pick a favorite… ok, i can – the hexies. beautiful!
Thank you 🙂 Some day, I just hope I can finish them all up….I definitely have enough to do a lovely year of finishes next year. 🙂
Wow! You really do have a lot of works in progress and they are all very pretty! Good luck getting a few done!
I’m bummed I missed your spotlight moment, but I’ll catch up with you at bee. ALL your WIP’s are gorgeous!
I love all of your WIPs! I really like your first quilt design… how cool to make something you designed!
Thank you 🙂
Beautiful. Amazing. Bright. Fun. Incredible. Awe Inspiring. Cool.
Thank you. I don’t know what to say.
All of your WIPs are fantastic! I love how colorful the hexies are.
oh, goodness! so many wonderful colors and techniques going on here.
i don’t know exactly why we jump into so many things at once. i think you’ve hit on some of the reasons. for me, i think it’s partly because it takes so long to complete anything that i can’t be patient enough to wait and do them in order. i’ve got to try things NOW. somehow, i think having lots moving also helps me get more done. i know that doesn’t make any sense, but if i’m stuck on one project, i can work on another. it doesn’t leave me doing nothing when i don’t want to work on any one project because there is something else to do. the sewing stays fresh.
thanks so much for linking in to “in hand” with your awesome hexies!
Thank you for stopping by and enjoying my ADD 😀
I am definitely the same way, though at times I can get overwhelmed. I need then to take a step back, take inventory and add some goals. A list with dates (whether I meet them or not) always makes me feel better 🙂
all lovely projects! I’m in love with the Orange and Grey, especially. What size Hexies are you using?
The hexies are 1 inch.
Tula pink is going to be totally fab!
Now I just have to find the time, I am so delayed in these….one thing I have learned is I cannot keep up with QAL.
It’s both fun and scary seeing all the WIPs laid out in one place, isn’t it?
I think I’ve commented on just about all of these before.. they’re all beautiful projects.
I’m visiting from the EPP linky party. Wow you are so far along on your hexie quilt. It looks great! I am sure I have more WIPs than you do. Maybe I should do a show and tell too.
