Around Christmas, I posted a new design for a sampler quilt. I have decided to move forward with making it up, as I might be teaching it soon locally, as a series of classes. I need to make sure the blocks work as a mini quilt (36 x 36″) and lap quilt (72 x 72″).
First step, of course my favorite part, the fabric selection. I have a open decision to make on the dark blue print….which one do you think, 1 or 2?
Option 1: Route (Alex Morgan)
Option 2: Entangled (Heather Dutton)
Here are the fabrics (in option 2) and the links in where to find them on Spoonflower.com.
- Entangled (Heather Dutton)
- Mud Cloth (Andrea Whalen)
- Free-form arrows (Andrea Whalen)
- Math Blue (Katarina Roccella)
- White Birchbark (Kelly – Weaving Major)
- Twinkle Lights (Heather Dutton)
- Dark Orange Spot (Alex Morgan)
- Hip Chip (Alex Morgan)
I like option 2. It’s a little less busy and will read better as a dark fabric. And I prefer the design on it too. This is going to be a lovely quilt and I’m looking forward to seeing its progress.
I like number 2. It’s a bit… crisper? Lovely rainbow selection 🙂

I like them both but the white on the second choice pulls out the white of the other fabrics and makes them “fit” together better. Will you be teaching this online as well?
What a cool quilt design! I like the 2nd blue better 🙂
I like option 2, love the quilting design! It will be a great sampler!
I am voting two…and where do I sign up to do the Sampler. I can not resist a good Sampler and this is a GOOD sampler.
Yes. Two. And this is a genius sampler. I want to come to your class!!!
I like the entangled. The scale and print work well with the others.
P.S. really great graphic sampler!
I think they both work pretty well. I think choice 1 reads darker, without the added white, but I still prefer 2 in the end.
I’d go with choice number 2, and the first swatch is a little duller, compared to your other fabrics int eh pull. I can’t wait to see more!
Option 2!
I’m in the minority in that I like #1. It looks like the light blue lines in the print match the “math” print which really helps to tie it together with the rest of the fabrics you chose!
