Blogiversary + Giveaway

It’s been two years already!! Where did time go?? This year has been a big one for my blog and myself. You may have noticed I stopped posting about topics other than quilting/sewing. This was not a conscious decision. It kind of happened organically, as such, I changed up my blog menu, to reflect more of my active quilting topics.

Some of the big things that have happened in the last year:

  • Won Designers Choice award for the Threadbias Critters Patch Baby Quilt Design contest.
    NaturalCorridors_Solids_Lines
  • Participated in my first online bees – Scrapbeelicious and Stash bee.
  • Started Book Review Tuesdays (which is still happening just a little more sporadically).
  • Hosting Gypsy Wife Quilt Along and it was the first time I reached out to get sponsors.
  • My most successful post is the tutorial for the iPad/iPhone stand.
    TeachersAppreciationGift_front
  • Teaching 4 modern quilting classes at Spoonflower using my Sampler Quilt design. Part 3 of the 4 classes is currently open if you want to attend and in the Raleigh/Durham area.

  • Participated in Sew Down Nashville and met some of the folks in the blogosphere. Also met Ashley (finally) from Wasn’t Quilt in Day!
  • Joined the Quilt Design a Day group.
  • Michael Oakshott, sponsored my “Neighbourhood” quilt and sent me fabric!!
    Neighbourhood_quilt_top_complete
  • Won the Jungle Ave + Quilt Now Quilt Design contest.

  • You can check out my finishes for this year here.
  • Last week, I reached over 100,000 views!! and ~800 followers
  • Today, I have a featured tutorial on Sew Mama Sew for my new quilt, which is one of my Quilt Design a Day designs. I will be choosing a couple more designs over the next couple of months and sharing them on Sew Mama Sew (if you have a favorite let me know).

A thank you goes out to the top 5 recent commenters to my blog. This is based on a wordpress statistic which does a count of the number of comments made by a person in the last 1000 comments. I will be sending a gift card to these 5 people from Hawthorne Threads. An email has been sent.

In addition to this I want to thank all those who have supported me in my new hobby/obsession, I thought a giveaway would be in order.  All you need to do is leave me a comment about a project you are proud of so far this year (include a link so I can take a look. I love seeing everybody’s work). If you are a follower leave a second comment for a second entry. The winner will be announced after 6pm EST this Friday (5th September).

The giveaway includes:

  • A 1/2 yard bundle of a selection (at least 3-4 yards) of my “Elements” fabric designs from Spoonflower.com.
    Elements_text
  • A Robert Kaufman Kona Color Card from the FQS.
Screen Shot 2014-09-02 at 11.29.35 AM
  • And a box of Alison Glass Aurifil thread kit (small)

    9. My latest quilt is a lap size Economy Block using so many of my favorite, long hoarded, quirky fabrics – but it’s been too rainy to get outside for a photo. Second latest finish – I made a scrappy ABC quilt for my grandson using the Spell It with Moda. I hope this Flickr link works – I don’t have a blog!

    12. I just got back into quilting and my first big project is a EPP hexagon quilt using ginghams I inherited from a great aunt. I don’t have a blog yet so I don’t know how to link a picture!

    15. Congratulations on your milestone! Your projects are wonderful! Love your butterfly quilt; I did that challenge too and it was lots of fun. For me, often the project I’m most excited about it the one I’ve finished most recently, but here’s a link to one I love from a few months back. Not a very complicated project, but I just like how it turned out.

    20. I am working on a quilt for our son. He gets married May 31, 2015. They are both civil war re-enactors, so I thought it appropriate that they get a civil war quilt, made from civil war reproduction fabrics and using Barbara Brackman’s Civil War Sampler book. Some fabulous quilt blocks.

    23. Congrats on your 2nd blogiversary . I really can give a favorite because each piece I do is a favorite at the time because of the progress I feel in my abilities as a quilter. I don’t have a blog and I don’t know how to do a link to my flicker page but hopefully this will work. http://www.flickr.com/photos/marjnath/

    32. My proudest achievement would be finishing my Studio Cherie duffle. It was in my WIP list for over a year because for a long time I didn’t have the skills to make it, so it represents how far my sewing has come. I get a kick every time I use it! (Sorry not sure how to link to Instagram but you can find it under the hashtag #peachescraft2014)

    50. Thank you for a crazy generous giveaway! Your work is gorgeous. Right now I am proud of my forest friends appliqué quilt that was made for a friend ( rileysquilts.wordpress.com ) and of my rainbow quilt I’m working on. I love the challenge of figuring out my own blocks and how to put them together!
