I had high hopes for this week coming off a great vacation. Those were soon dashed, as I came back with a head cold… which unfortunately has not improved 4 days later. So, instead I am posting this to share with you all, what my intentions were (thumbs up)…and the fact I love this project.
Rangers Station is the one project I did not make progress on during my vacation. This quilt I had hoped to finish for the 2015 Pantone Quilt Challenge (let’s be honest, I won’t make tomorrow’s deadline, no matter what my voices in my head are telling me).
My design was based on the signs on a rangers station, in the mountains of North Carolina. I used Oakshott Cottons for this quilt. The middle blocks use colors, out of the autumn bundle; and then the border is Lipari (08).
The wind picked up during my photo shoot, I loved how it landed. I think the color additions of yellows, oranges and the purple/raisin worked well with the “Marsala-like” solid.
For the back I did have a plan of adding prints to solids but pulling the line and cross elements to the back. Here is what I plan to work with.
Finally, one more shot of the front.
Good luck to those that enter, I will be coming over to vote!! I encourage you all though, that if you have a chance, enter….they have great prizes!!
Why don’t you enter the Just the Top category? I love the color sense you’ve brought to this piece.
I finished the top right before Christmas so it does not qualify – all finishes must be in 2015. So, I thought at least I will share my intentions :-). I think this is one of my favorite quilts, and once this cold has gone I will definitely get back to it!!
i agree with quiltinmod, put it in the just the top category. Such beautiful colors you chose. at the being i wasn’t sure i liked the color, but now i’m loving the richness Marsala gives other fabrics
Same. And get better soon, and don’t stop listening to the voices in your head, it’s what quilting’s all about!
Such a shame you couldn’t get this one finished. Maybe you could link it up with non-judged entries if you don’t feel you can link the top only…
Oh bummer about not being able to submit the top; that was going to be my suggestion, too!
We have had a sick week here too, so I understand how you feel! I love the color you chose for this quilt! Makes me want to go get some Oakeshott right now!
It is a gorgeous quilt top, just sorry you have been too sick to finish it for the challenge.
I love your design and can’t wait to see more, deadline or no.
Such a striking design! I hope you feel better soon – you’ve got too many great projects in the works to be sick!
