High hopes dashed

I had high hopes for this week coming off a great vacation. Those were soon dashed, as I came back with a head cold… which unfortunately has not improved 4 days later. So, instead I am posting this to share with you all, what my intentions were (thumbs up)…and the fact I love this project.

Rangers Station is the one project I did not make progress on during my vacation. This quilt I had hoped to finish for the 2015 Pantone Quilt Challenge (let’s be honest, I won’t make tomorrow’s deadline, no matter what my voices in my head are telling me).

My design was based on the signs on a rangers station, in the mountains of North Carolina. I used Oakshott Cottons for this quilt. The middle blocks use colors, out of the autumn bundle; and then the border is Lipari (08).

IMG_4073The wind picked up during my photo shoot, I loved how it landed. I think the color additions of  yellows, oranges and the purple/raisin worked well with the “Marsala-like” solid.

For the back I did have a plan of adding prints to solids but pulling the line and cross elements to the back. Here is what I plan to work with.

Finally, one more shot of the front.

Good luck to those that enter, I will be coming over to vote!! I encourage you all though, that if you have a chance, enter….they have great prizes!!

Two people, two finishes

My son (7) and I attended Spoonflower’s sew together, “Pins and Needles” this week (3rd Tuesday of every month), where we both finished our quilt tops.

He was so proud of his patchwork top. He picked out the Kona solid squares from a charm pack and organized the placement randomly. He sewed all the pieces and rows together, and just needed a little help with the pinning and pressing. This is going to be turned into a patchwork pillow for his friend’s Christmas present.

For my finish, I finished up the Ranger’s Station quilt top pattern. The quilt top is made with Oakshott Cottons. The middle blocks use colors all out of the autumn bundle; and then the border is Lipari (08).

I have had a hard time getting the colors to show up right in the photos. This is the closest colorings above, but they are so much brighter especially with the light on them. To show you how hard it is to photograph the color’s….this is the same quilt in the shade.

Anyway, the pattern for this will be coming out the end of December, so keep an eye out for it in Craftsy store.

Rule breaking!! New Projects

I know I shouldn’t be starting new projects with all those quilts that need to be quilted, but I am….and loving it!!

I will say, slightly in my defense, I have taken the first step for quilting Phased Circles (my project for this month), picking out my thread. Thank you Aurifil, for the fantastic selection… here are my thread selections (I also have a grey to add to the ones below and have to find a color that will go with wasabi).

I am also preparing for my business trip next week in New York, of course I am taking a couple of project with me. The two projects will be both hand sewing projects. One is Celestial Spheres (Part 2) “Autumn Equinox”…which I am working on getting the pieces tacked before I leave….

The second is my next Sew Mama Sew Project..here is the fabric pull; a new all Kona solids project!!

Lastly, I am cutting up my Autumn Oakshott Cotton Bundle for my Rangers Station quilt and adding some Raisin Kona Cotton. Here’s the color palette:

Boy, looking at the projects like this, I am definitely on a warm color kick this week. In the meantime my project list expanded a little ;-).
