Happy 1st Blogoversary – giveaway

blogoversary

It is amazing to think it has been a full year since I started my blog. Lately my blog has focused mostly on the crafty side, but I still enjoy the cooking/baking aspects and the finer arts. So my goal for this next year will be to find a balance!!! That’s it, simple….right???

I don’t want go into too much of what I have done, as I think these posts cover it well, and sums it all up with photo mosaics.

First, I would like to thank all those that I have meet over the course of the year. You are all inspiring, encouraging and wonderful people. I started out looking for a community and I, for sure, have found that. So, thank you to all.

Sunday Funday Giveaway Party

In conjunction with Julie’s Sunday Funday party, for two weeks I will be hosting a giveaway.

As a thank you this week, I am giving away the book “Quilting on the Go”, one set of reusable hexagon templates, and two charm packs (Posy + Baby Jane)….kind of a mini hand project kit!!  All you need to do is leave:

  1. a comment below – about anything you want,
  2. and if you are a follower leave a second comment for a second entry.

I will draw a winner randomly next Friday.

Also something a little different, there a 5 people who, in particular, have offered guidance, encouragement over this year – they are my 5 top commenters in my blog. I truly appreciate you stopping by so much.  I am gifting each a $25 USD Etsy gift card.

Hope you all have a great weekend and good luck…stop by next week for a 2nd giveaway opportunity.

Scrap-bee-licious Bee, August blocks done!!

After having so much fun in Beth’s New Bloggers Blog hop, a few of us joined in on the Scrap-bee-licious organized the wonderful Ashley and Laura. Each month the “Queen of the month” decides on a block design and we all send in our blocks.

Ashley is first up and she chose a block pattern to make a similar quilt like this Converging Corners quilt by Ashley @ Film in the Fridge. Here are my blocks….all ready to ship.

I decided to make one block a warm colored block:IMG_8422

and the other a cold colored block:IMG_8423

I think they complement each other and I hope they work well with the other blocks.IMG_8436

The rest of the schedule is as follows, I can’t wait 🙂

Chocolate Roulade (Chocolate log)

For my son’s 6th birthday cake, he requested a rectangle with circle ends….I translated this into a Chocolate Roulade (or a Chocolate log). So, here is the first chocolate log I have made. I will add one note, to avoid cracking when rolling the cake you need to roll when straight from the oven.

Chocolate_Log

Ingredients (original recipe from New Zealand Edmonds Cookbook)

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 25g butter, melted
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • Icing sugar (confectionary sugar)
  • Strawberry jam
  • 4 oz Strawberries, sliced
  • 1/2 – 1 cup cream, whipped

Beat eggs, sugar and vanilla until thick. Sift cocoa, flour and baking powder together and add to the egg mixture. Add butter and water.

Pour mixture into a 20 x 30 cm sponge roll tin. Bake at 190 degrees C (375 F) for 10-12 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched.

When cooked turn out onto cookie paper (grease-proof paper), that is lightly coated with icing sugar. Spread the strawberry jam, strawberries and whip cream over the cake. Roll from the short side using the paper to help. Leave the roll wrapped in paper and refrigerate (to prevent cream from melting).

When cold sprinkle with additional icing sugar (powdered or confectionary sugar) or ice with chocolate butter icing. Slice and serve.
