My new work area

My craft area in our bonus room has come a long way. I love the changes we made to accommodate my renewed interests.

First off we made a floating sewing table in one of the alcoves. It was a great use of space. I got a cool new chair from West Elm and a desk lamp from CB2.

We moved my crafts project table (which was originally purchased from pottery barn) to be floating, so I can now work around all sides. We added a new bookcase (from West Elm) to help organize finished projects and ongoing projects; added storage baskets (felt gray one from West elm, Green tray also from West Elm, Dark weaved basket from Pottery Barn and the wood tray from Crate and Barrel).

The bookcase adds a framing element to my craft area and the new reading area. And today, our new couch (from CB2) arrived which adds a nice reading area which sits on the other side of the bookcase.

So that’s my new work area.

I also wanted to share two of my favorite walls I painted in our house. The first is my sons room which are squares that slightly wrap around the room; and the second is the guest room which is painted orange and I used white vinyl to create a tree and individual leaves decal.

More placemats for Christmas – Project 2

I was asked by a friend to make some placemats for a christmas gift. We found some great New York themed Home Essential Fabric from Joann’s which will work great for the recipients.

These are simple placemats – New York fabric used for the front, Striped fabric for the back, dark brown binding and straight line quilting used to join everything together.

Keeping the memories of your kid’s art

I am writing today, as I am always trying to find new ways of displaying and keeping a record of my son’s art work and general work over time.

I would love more ideas from folks. Please share them – I will try them out and update the post to show you how they worked 🙂

I have tried two things so far:

Frame your favorite pieces in bright colors. You can change them out if you use a standard frame size. I do all the prep work for the art work but I take it to the local framing shop for the class and frame. Below are two pieces, my son’s first at home project – a turkey feather collage and the second a colored in shark, these are hung in my son’s playroom.
I think my son’s art work is a great present for his grandparents, so I make an album up for my parents every Christmas. I also make one up for us to keep so that we can have memories for him when he is older.
