Sunday Stash #13: A Sew Down Nashville special

I have been missing in action for a couple of days, here on my blog; definitely not though if you follow me on instagram. The main reason for the absence…I was in Nashville for the Modern Quilt Guild Sew Down Nashville.Airport_SewdownI had a blast and will definitely sharing the fabulous time over the next few days. Today though, it is all about the goodies from Sew Down Nashville.

We received a few free goodies through-out the conference. Great Dear Stella Dots, a couple of Charm Packs and I won Elizabeth Dackson’s new book “Becoming a Confident Quilter”. I was ecstatic!!Sewdown_Goodies

On Friday night, we were off to Anna Maria Horner’s Studio/House….I know unbelievable right?? Of course, she was selling fabric…and I bought some.AMH_BundlesLinens

There were gift packs from Anna Maria Horner as well…they had fat quarters of her new line that is coming out later this year. Yes, I have some.

I also picked up some of Angela Walters new line, while participating in her FMQ class.

So, stay tuned for the rest of the week for a synopsis of the weekend….and next Sunday Stash I will have my HUGE surprise (if you are on instagram, ml_wilkie….you know what that will be), that should be arriving.

Linking up with Molli Sparkles for Sunday Stash (see button on the right).

Slow goings

With the hubby being out-of-town most of the week, working full-time and looking after my sprout (son), I did not have time to do much this week. I definitely did not get in my 30 minutes a day.

I added 1 more block to my X and + quilt blocks to make 10 (only 38 to go – obviously not reaching my “A lovely year of finishes” goal for this month)…but at least there was progress!!

I made two iPhone/iPad stands.

I also am excited for two reasons…my mum is arriving from NZ today!!! and I am starting to pull fabrics for the classes at Sew Down Nashville. Here are my fabric selections for Carolyn Friedlander’s class using her Aerials quilt design.

First off it is all Lotta Jansdotter prints that I have been saving for the right project. This is it!! I am planning on mostly blacks, whites and greys; with a section of the yellows and oranges.

I am hoping to get a whole lot done this weekend to catch-up and finish of my quarterly project goals.

P.S. Book Review Tuesdays will be back 2nd Tuesday in April.

Carolyn Friedlander’s “The Grove” class + Winner of Book Review giveaway

This weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Carolyn Friedlander’s The Grove class. It is a paper piecing pattern, which was so totally unexpected. The class was well constructed, and the pattern was wonderful to work with. I managed to finish two blocks of the 12 block quilt. I still have a lot of work to do…yes, it means I have another WiP :-).

I am using various Kona cotton neutrals for the backing and Collage by Carrie Bloomston for the trees. I am so happy I broke out my Collage fat quarter bundle.

Meeting Carolyn was definitely the highlight of the day. She was so lovely and was open to questions around various topics from appliqué techniques, quilt market, and designs/patterns. She bought along her trunk show and we got to see her pillows and quilts she had made from Kona cottons and her new Botanics line.

Two things I am now looking forward to since, I took this class:

  1. Buying Carolyn’s new line – it is amazing. You should see Carolyn’s amazing quilts she has made with her new line. LOVE!! I may have to buy 1/2 to 1 yard of the whole line.
  2. Taking Carolyn’s class at Sew Down Nashville next year (yes, I am registered!!!)

I loved the block so much, it made me change the blocks I was sending Cath @ Wombat quilts for her October Scrap-bee-licious blocks (requirement a paper pieced block of low-volume fabrics). I added this low-volume grove block into the mix. The text-based print is part of “Road 15” Fabric line and the grey stripes is from “Just for Fun – Creative Thursday”

I am linking up with Lee over @ Freshly pieced for WiP Wednesday.

Last part of today’s post….the announcement of the winner of Elizabeth Hartman’s “The Practical Guide of Patchwork”  (last week’s book for Book Review Tuesday) is:
