UFO’s and the Neighbourhood Quilt

Ok, so where did July go???

I wanted to let you all know that I may be a little busy over the next few weeks. Great news, it is all to do with sewing/quilting. Over the weekend, after finishing another quilt top, I laid out all my UFO’s….quilt top finishes.

3 of the quilt tops were finished in the last 3 months, the other 3 in the last year. To add to the pile, I have at least 2-3 additional quilt tops in the works; one of which, is the Neighbourhood Quilt. I have started the 3rd row, and decided on all the Oakshott Cotton colors I will be using for the other blocks.

So, my priorities (well lets say its more a refocus exercise) over the next few weeks are:

  • Finish “Neighborhood” Quilt – top, baste, quilt and bind (this will be my main goal for August for A Lovely Year of Finishes)
  • Finish “Spoonflower Sampler” Quilt – baste, quilt and bind,
  • Finish “Phased Circles” Quilt – baste, quilt and bind,
  • Finish testing a paper piecing pattern – piece/top, baste, quilt and bind,
  • Finish two other projects (they are a secret for now ;-)) – cut, piece, top, baste, quilt and bind.

I plan to continue doing some of my usual posts WiP Wednesday, QDAD on Thursday, Finish it up Friday and Sunday Stash, they just might be a little intermittent.

Don’t you hate it when those projects sneak up on you :-). Linking up with Lee over at Freshly Pieced for WiP Wednesday and linking up with A Lovely year of finishes (see buttons on the right).

Phased Circles – the back

I have finally managed to get back to my phased circles quilt. You know, my goal to finish for July…well, I think I will at least have it basted before the end of July. My plan for the back is to use the black, white and grey Carolyn Friedlander prints I have not utilized on the front (that will make 38 of her 42 prints used in this quilt!!)

(Pst…I could so totally make a quilt out of just this palette too!!)

I was so excited to get started on the back, until I realized I was short on one of the prints and 2 white strips (of a jelly roll). Frustrating, especially since I am on vacation for the week and will have to put it aside until I get home….where fabric should be waiting.

I did move forward with a graduating look, from light to dark to light….which means the last print I need will be added to each of the ends.

Phased Circles Back

So, that is where I am at this week. I am hoping by next week, that it will be basted (that will depend on whether I am traveling for work or not).

WiP Wednesday: getting ready for vacation

What do you take on vacation with you?? I am not really a beach person though the rest of my family are, so I always try to take my sewing with me.

So next week, we are off to the beach for the week….and I am taking with me a few of my WiPs. This week, is all about getting packed and preparing the projects.

First up, Phased Circles: Background fabric selected

The plan is to balance the color, so I am using Kona Pepper, with black, white and grey Carolyn Friedlander fabrics.

Project 2: Spoonflower Class – Row 3 blocks, plan is to finish row 3 and minimally finish the quilt top.

Last night, I spent some time cutting out all the pieces of that 3rd row.

Project 3: Jungle Ave Quilt. Fabrics arrived and are beautiful, so I will start to plan and cut the quilt top.

Project 4: Of course, you need to keep a 4 1/2 hour drive interesting…so you guessed, it the hexagon quilt is coming with us.

So, that is my plan for next week…the rest of the week is prepping and cutting. Linking up with Lee over at Freshly Pieced for WiP Wednesday.
