This was my first full year of sewing/quilting. I originally started sewing in October 2012, and have been addicted to making things and buying fabric, since. I got a lot accomplished this year. My biggest goal was to try a new project/skill every month. I definitely did accomplish that and feel my skills have definitely developed over the year. Here are some of my finishes in 2013.
I still struggle with “what is my style”, but I am sure it will come the more I make things. I did discover, I like designing from things I see around me (you also have to love pinterest). I was delighted when my first quilt design won designers choice award, it offered some validation, which of course we all need :-). Since September, when I discovered threadbias, I have been able to come up with these designs.
I have also kept up with the baking/cooking aspect of my blog but I will admit over the year my blog has shifted focus. Some of my favorite recipes over the year include the triple berry trifle, a Banana Nutella Chocolate loaf, Raspberry and White Chocolate Muffins and Lemon Buttermilk Pound Cake.
I have big plans for 2014, and that I plan to post over the next couple of days. So, that was my year, how was yours?? What do you have planned for 2014??
I have been checking out some of the blogs on the subject that have been already posted….but looking forward to reading them all over the break.
What wonderful achievements! I hadn’t thought of doing a year in review but seeing yours set out like that is inspiring! I love your use of colour and your piecing work – seeing it all together is a joy for the eyes! I am working on my planning for 2014….. lots of ideas that need some structure!
Thank you. It was fun digging back through the posts an deciding what I would show and seeing how much I tried out 🙂 I definitely needed some structure and need to finish off some WiPs which seem overwhelming at times. Good Luck in your planning, can’t wait to see it.
You certainly have had a productive and beautiful 2013 in the sewing category 🙂 I need to work on getting my 2013 recap and 2014 goal setting posts in order. That counts as one of the first goals of the New Year, right?
It sure does !!! I am so excited to see what people are thinking about or see what they have done.
I just found your blog recently, in my travels through the xmas-ideas links. I had no idea that you just started sewing and quilting a year (plus a little bit!) ago — your skills are well beyond the beginner phase! Did you know that there are several, perhaps even many?, contests and scholarships that “promising” new quilters can apply for? I was just reading about one that Ricky Tims offers annually; the grand prize is a full scholarship to a retreat at his studio plus $500 for expenses. I think some major quilt shows also sponsor new and outstanding quilters — awards if not $$ (sorry I don’t know more details). Check it out!
Thank you so much!! Thank you so much for the information, I will take a look around and see what I can find. I would like to submit a couple of quilts to a quilt show.
I still covet that zippy pouch you made for the guild swap… And your kiwi… And… The list goes on. Everything you make is want-worthy!! I just posted my 2014 plan. My 2013 summary would hardly fill a post, but I have high hopes for 2014!
You never know maybe somethings might find there way to you soon 🙂
Your half square triangle pillow is still one of my favorites from the year. Love! Such a great idea to do a year in review. Loved joining along with you and all of these projects!!
I loved having you join along, and have thoroughly enjoyed reading your stuff as well 🙂
I hope your Christmas went well, I loved your quilty family time 🙂
Visiting from Anne and Sarah’s year in review link up.
I couldn’t leave without saying how awesome that kiwi bird is! He’s so cute. Looking at your mosaic, it’s hard to believe you’ve only been quilting for a year. You’re definitely sewing at a much higher level than I am, so I’ll be interested to see where you take this hobby 🙂
Thank you so much. That is the nicest thing someone can say 🙂 Happy new year.
Wow, I’m really impressed that you’ve only been quilting for a year! Your style will develop as you continue (I’m still finding my style, too!) but I wouldn’t worry about it too much, as you seem to have a knack for making beautiful things. 🙂
Thanks Anne. I also expect my style to change and grow even when I think I know what it is 🙂 Thats the great thing about life isn’t it. Agree with you, just so long as the items I make are something I like – we are all good :-). Happy New Year.
Wow – you were busy in 2013 – so many beautiful projects! And yummy looking baking!
Thanks I love both, so I am hoping I can still find the balance between my sewing and my other areas of interest. Is it not always about balance and that struggle to get there ;-). Happy New Year.
Wow…what lovely work. Love your style. Keep it up for the next year…who knows what you can accomplish?
Thank you 🙂 Happy New Year.
Congrats on a year of lovely projects! I’m excited to see all of the wonderful things 2014 brings you!
Thank you 🙂 You too!!
I am really excited about that really geometric design. I think I commented about it last time but I am STILL excited. 🙂 Also, your food pictures are making me hungry.
I know about those food pictures they make me hungry too…those or pinterest :-). I will be happy when I can start making up the blocks and posting the blocks for others to try. First things first though 🙂
