WiP Wednesday in the Mountains

I have another finish to celebrate today….it is the “Mod Squares”. The design and tutorial can be found over at Sew Mama Sew. It is my new Fall/Autumn lap sized quilt, that I will be using for my sofa using low-volumes, neutrals and Indelible prints. My favorite part….I have a couple of stripes of some FMQ!!Mod_Squares_Finished_800

The rest of my projects, are coming along nicely too.  This list and deadlines have been keeping me on top of things for once, SUCCESS!!

I am on a last-minute vacation in the mountains this week. I am, however, trying to focus on the Cherie quilt top, now that two of the other quilts are complete. I managed to cut out all 182 pieces…I think that is the first time I cut out all the pieces (more or less) before starting the actual quilt. I usually cut, sew and then repeat.

So, now onto piecing all of these…my favorite part. Linking up with Lee over @ Freshly Pieced for WiP Wednesday (see button on the right).

Starts and Finishes

I have 5 projects this week, I am concentrating on (the number kept growing as I wrote this, also with 5 concentrating may be the wrong word ;-)). I have two projects that I want to finish this week, 1 that is underway but I am hoping to get the top finished, so I can start  2 more projects.

One of the projects, I hope to finish this week is Bjorn the Bear. I have selected the fabric for the back, and I am keeping with the theme.

Bjorns Backing

The backing fabric is the new Feather River, Shroom Bear Hike, Birch Fabrics and I am pairing that with a rust looking Kona Cotton stripe.

For the two projects, I am thinking of starting, I have the idea and the fabric chosen out. The first one is something I am thinking of making for my son. It will use the new Vikings line from Alexander Henry.

VikingsProjectAre they not cute prints!.

The other project is one of my new designs (which will also appear in QDAD post tomorrow), using many of the prints from Cherie, Frances Newcombe’s new line.

So a busy week, which should be doable with the hubby out of town. Linking up with Lee over @ Freshly Pieced for WiP Wednesday (see button on the right).

Sunday Stash: A Class and New Releases

Carolyn Friedlander was in North Carolina for the weekend teaching classes. On Saturday she was scheduled to teach “Olive” at Studio Stitch in Greensboro (about 90 minutes away). At the very last-minute on Friday night, I checked with a friend to see if there were any spots left. Lucky for me there was!!

So, yesterday, I made up 3 of the 4 tree blocks in class, using Hawthorne Hues and Cotton and Steel Basics. I love the blues and the corals/oranges. One more block to go in Navy and Red. I am thinking of using Mustard, Bone and a Grey for borders.

I had some happy mail this week. The first package is yardage of some of the new Kona solids and a new color card. I ordered from Fat Quarter Shop who has great service. Did you know that you can just add a note, at point of sale, to label your Kona cottons!!! I love it and will now always ask.

Just a FYI, the color card was not a single card. You get the old one with an insert sheet of the new 32 colors. I thought the description was a little misleading but the FQS do mention at the end “insert”, so I thought I would mention it here – just a heads up. Description: “The Kona Cotton Solids Color Card features 303 cotton swatches. Swatches are approximately 1″. This color card already includes the 32 new Kona colors insert.”

Lastly, but definitely not least, I bought some of the grey, white and black prints from Frances Newcombe’s Cherie from Hawthorne threads. I love it!!

I will have an update next weekend on my big tidy up….I spent all day today going through my recent purchases (probably the last 6 months), putting the yardage around the comic book boards that I use adding what I can back into my sewing room.  [OH, YES….I have an overflow room at the moment].
