Washed Earth Mosaics

Rachel over @ Stitched in Color is hosting another mosaic competition. You all know how much I love color and how much I enjoy participating in the mosaics. This time the mosaics need to be created using fabric images from pink chalk fabrics and should represent a washed earth theme – i.e. earthy tones, browns, greys and whites.

Here is my first entry, which is a little more saturated and inspired by fall in the mountains of North Carolina:

Second entry having more of the washed look and again inspired by our trip to the Appalachians last fall:

Work in Progress Wednesday {01.05.2013}

This week’s projects that I must have finished this weekend are:

  • A custom Order from my Etsy Store for 5 Chair Bags
  • Madrona road challenge
  • Cushion Cover

For the chair bags, I have 3 girl and 2 boy themed bags/pockets to make. Here are the swatches below.

The boys have the grey corduroy with brown polka dots and whale fabric I purchased from Spoonflower.

Madrona Road Challenge, my blocks are designed from a Dwell magazine picture. I have two made – I have 7 to do in the next week.

The cushion cover, I am still working on the design but I am thinking of using a design from the book Pillow Pop. See the flickr group here.

Don’t forget to go and take a look at the mosaic contest over at Stitch in Color, voting ends tomorrow.

I am linking up with Lee @ Freshly Pieced for WiP Wednesday.

Mosaic contest finalist

I was so ecstatic and surprised this afternoon, when I received an email to say I am one of the ten finalist for the Mosaic contest. Voting is open now. I hope you go and take a look @ Stitched in Color.

It was my second entry that was chosen. It was based on the colors used for this Buqshan hotel in Khaila – Yemen (Photo by Eric Lafforgue). It was one of the first images, I added to my pinterest design photo. The vibrancy is breath-taking.

Representing this with fabric – this was what I came up with:

I tried very hard to use a different bundle for each fabric (except of course the solids), so I thought I would put together the list so folks can find them if you are interested.

Materials were top left –> Bottom right:
