It takes a Village

You have seen some snippets of this project on my IG and Blog feeds the past months. For some reason, this quilt has taken me forever!!  Its not overly complicated. I had deadline pressures, which made me procrastinate and really not enjoy working on it. You know how that goes….and its not really about the project at all.

I decided that I would fix the issue by submitting another project, and just take the time I need to finish this the way I want to finish it.

Great news is, I no longer need to hide the overall quilt from you all, since I am no longer submitting it as a project. The actual front of this quilt is almost complete –  just quilting a couple more rows, and then the triangles to go.

This design was one of my early QDAD designs. It is one of my husband’s favorites. It reminds him of a village, the triangles representing roof tops. I added the circle quilting to represent the town center.

I am actually loving the brown/neutral color palette. Surprisingly, loving the C+S tack fabric print, which helped me pull in that blue solid that appears today, in the back but also will appear in the binding and quilting thread color.

Isn’t it amazing what happens when you just change your perspective, and now this project works for me!!I think I actually might make my A lovely year of Finishes deadline this month!!

Re-energized and ready for March Madness

Now feeling re-energized and inspired by QuiltCon, I am all ready to tackle March Madness head on (In North Carolina, with the basketball, March is known as March Madness).

So, here is an updated list of my projects…which this month mostly included secret projects, so not much to show yet. I think, I am tracking well for my month of March, but don’t be too surprised if I add a project here or there :-). I am really surprised that I have two projects 1/2 way through quilting…one of these will be my ALYoF projects for March.

The new project that is on the list, I am so excited about. The theme is Cloud 9…it’s using the cloud 9 bundle of Cirrus Solids I won, and prints from Biology (Sarah Watson) to make modified versions of my Cloud 9 Cirrus Solids Block of the Month. The question remains whether I start it this weekend or finish quilting one of my other 1/2 finished quilts.

Quilting Triangles

I have a project I am working on at the moment, that originally, I thought I could leave the triangles unquilted (46 of them). Well, the linen triangles are a little too puffy for my liking and I really need to quilt them.

That started me on this path:

  1. Using Angela Walters Shape by Shape book to find inspiration on how to quilt these triangles. I love this book.
  2. The designs had to be done with my walking foot. I am determined that I don’t need to change my foot on my machine for just these triangles.

These are the quilting patterns, I came up with for my 4″ triangles. Both of the designs are similar to Angela’s designs for Triangle 1 and 7 but I added some more detail in them to make them my own.

Nested Pyramids:
This is very similar to Angela’s example (Triangle 7), but I can not help myself….Star Trek badge ;-). I did do some initial marking for this block. I marked the 2 ” center line, and then along that line from the top, I marked 3 lines at a 1″ spacing. These marks are used as rough guides to evenly separate the sections.

Crown Jewel:
Looks like the center piece of a tiara, right? I did do some initial marking for this block as well. I marked the 2 ” center at the bottom, and then along the sides I marked a 1″ spacing. These marks are used as rough guides to evenly separate the sections.
