WiP Wednesday…Catch-up Wednesday

I have so many projects that I have not got to recently, and I have been feeling so behind. Today, I feel like I have made some in roads to clearing that backlog. Yippee!!!

Project 1: Triple Zipper Pouch Swap
First off, I am part of the Triple Zipper Pouch Swap going on over on Flickr, here. Posting of the Triple Zipper Pocket is due on the August 17th and it has taken me forever to get started. I finally have all the pieces cut and ready for sewing.

Fabric Choices:

  • Lining: Straw hat blue, Cloud 9 (purchased from Joann)
  • Small pocket front: Flirty Flowers Tonal Dots in Pink, Robin Zingone, Robert Kaufman (purchased from Fresh Modern Fabric)
  • Small pocket front: Crosshatch in Plum, Architextures, Carolyn Friedlander, Robert Kaufman (purchased from Westwood Acres)
  • Back + large front pocket: Hexo in Kryptonite, Technicolor, Emily Herrick, Michael Miller (purchased from Fat Quarter Shop)
  • Zippers (purchased from Zipit)

Project 2: Kiwi Cushion/Pillow
I have promised for at least the last two months one of my blogger friends a kiwi cushion in reds and browns. The kiwi (a NZ native bird) is a paper piecing pattern designed by Juliet @ Tartan Kiwi. Her free pattern is now on Craftsy. The pillow front will look similar to this one, except I am using these red and brown improv blocks. The red block for the body and the brown for the legs and beak.

Project 3: Tula City Sampler – Blocks 1, 2, 3
So, I have started the Tula City Sampler Blocks Quilt Along…well the first three are cut. Boy, I did not realize what 6 1/2 inch blocks would mean….the pieces are tiny.

Fabric Choices:

This fabric line spoke volumes to me when I saw it. Normally, I am not a flower kind of person but the colors and design are fabulous. Perfect, in my opinion, for the Tula City Sampler project.

Organizing my sewing room

I have slowly been revamping my sewing space and upgrading it over time. One of the bigger remaining areas that bugged me was how I organized my upcoming projects. I had one basket and all projects (well the materials) stacked in that basket. So, I had been looking for a while for some way to organize my sewing projects. I was thinking about some kind of shelving + bin mechanism but in keeping with the rest of my sewing room.

I have fixed my problem and I love it. I bought a basket wall hanger from PBTeen last week, which was 20% off + free shipping (yippee!!). It arrived yesterday and installed it last night.

The basket I was using for my projects came in handy, as I used it to pack my projects for our vacation which starts today….all ready to leave to Charleston. IMG_7896

WiP Wednesday {17.07.2013}: Preparing for vacation

Whoop!! Whoop!! I am on vacation Saturday, off to Charleston for the week. Good news, I am allowed to take my sewing machine and I negotiated with the hubby ~4 hours a day of sewing. After that discussion, I decided I would layout my projects and plan out what I would take with me.

3x Triple Zipper Pouches…I am participating in the triple zipper pouch swap and I need to make the teachers end of year gifts that I didn’t do last month (due to being stuck in the airport).

I am also taking the baby hexagon quilt to do some hand sewing in the car and on the beach. I have one more project that I laid out decided to be a little realistic. A new quilt, first time using Kaffe Fassett fabric, want to make cross quilt from simply retro with low tones. Inspiration comes from this quilt by Adrianne @ On the windy side.IMG_7876
