Unabashedly Yellow Mosaic Competition

I love Rachel’s Mosaic Competitions over at Stitched in Color. Today, she posted a competition for one of my favorite colors…Yellow. Go over and check it out, it is a great way to start playing with colors.

My first entry is one of my favorite color combinations blue and yellow, with touches of grey. The greys and blues add a coolness to the palette.

My second entry, I used mostly warm colors to highlight an analogous palette.

Have a go, I promise you will enjoy it. Don’t forget to vote when voting opens.

Wonky Herringbone Placemats

I started some wonky herringbone placemats over the weekend. They are moving along nicely and are basted and ready for quilting.

If you are interested in the paper piecing pattern I use for the chevron/herringbone design, you can find it here. Some instructions:

  • Print at 71% or fit to page (is approx. 6 1/2 x 10 3/4″)
  • Cut the block out along the edge
  • Cut down the middle so you have two pieces
  • Once you finish paper piecing; make sure you measure the 1/4 inch seam allowance from the edge of the paper.
  • The final place mats above are 18 x 14″.

That is what I am working on this week + my blocks for Scrap-bee-licious Bee and Stash Bee.

Sunday Stash #23: Colorshott Cottons

A couple of weeks back, I decided that I wanted to make this quilt design a reality.

“Neighbourhood”

After seeing the vibrancy and depth of Oakshott cottons in Adrianne’s and Juliet’s quilts, I really wanted to do this design in Oakshott cottons.

I decided to take a chance, and it worked out. Thanks to Michael Oakshott, I have these wonderful fabrics to work with.

Did you know that there are 57 Colourshott cottons now. Below are their two layer cakes (10″ squares) and sample books that make up the 57 fabrics.

I am thinking of using the fabrics below, for making up the above quilt design. I am trying to decided between either Flax yarn dyed linen or a neutral Kona (like bone, oyster or snow) as a background.

What colors interest you? Do you have a design you want to make into reality?

I will link this post up next week with Molli Sparkles for Sunday Stash (see button on the right).
