Tula Pink blocks + a Shout out

I am definitely suffering from Quilting attention deficit disorder this week, which is being exaggerated by severe procrastination. I am supposed to be working on my This way, That way quilt. Instead, I have cleaned my sewing room, and worked on everything but the quilt I am supposed to be focussing on.

The only good thing is I got this weeks Tula Pink City Sampler blocks complete, which I have never done in time. In fact I have blocks 1-9 and now 64-66 :-). I am still loving the fabric choice – Spring House. Here are the new blocks:

Here are the close-ups of the blocks.

Here is a link of the previous 9 blocks I have made.

I will say the week has not all been frustrating.  I got home Friday night, and I had a package. My first reaction was what did I buy, have I forgotten something?? No, Laura, a wonderful friend I met in blog world, sent me an amazing woolly hat. It was perfect, as it is getting cold here in North Carolina and we had our first frost this week. I was so elated and so taken aback. So here is a shout out to Laura over @ Little and Lots, go over and take a look at her other hats – she has been knitting up a storm.

Hope you all are having a great weekend. I am counting down….Only 2 weeks until the Triangle MQG sewing retreat, 4 1/2 weeks to Thanksgiving, and 8 1/2 weeks to Christmas!!!

Sunday stash {26.10.2013}

Fiona over at Finding Fifth has one of my favorite linky parties – Sunday Stash. She gracious let me host it this week!!!

Today, when I looked around my sewing room, I realized that it looked like a tornado had hit it. I have spent the whole day cleaning it up….most of the time was spent putting fabric away. While I was cleaning up, I found this fabulous Home Decor VW van print which I received from Terry’s Fabrics.

I am so happy I found it, as I think I am going to make two floor cushions for my son, for Christmas. That will mean I have one gift done. I can’t make up my mind for a square or round cushion….the idea came from this pillow from Sarah Jane Studios.

Have you started working on those Christmas gifts?

Do you have some fantastic fabric to show, then please link up below. (NOTE: Unfortunately, I am a wordpress.com site so the link-up will appear in a separate window).

New star block design

I have been playing around in threadbias again today. Growing up in New Zealand gave me an amazing chance to be exposed to a lot of Pacific arts. One of my favorite arts are Tapa Cloths. Here is an example of what a Tapa Cloth is. Can’t you see a quilt design in there 🙂ed875c35d028d0c57343d0792073a8c4

Tapa Cloths use a lot of basic shapes such as triangles, circles and squares. Here is my new design inspired by this art form. This view is using some Lotta Jansdotter print to highlight the simple shapes.

What about how it would look as a monochromatic block (1 color)….
GreenTapaClothStar

Tapa Cloths art form fills “in between” shapes with stripes and other fillers. For example, see above, the flying geese have all those stripes in the “in between” spaces. So, I took the same monochrome view of the star block and added some stripes to get this……

I am thinking of making these into paper piecing patterns. What do you think…paper piecing pattern or just a block pattern?
