Cheri d’Amour

I am finally catching up with a few finishes/posts after being bogged down a little at work, and spending a fabulous weekend away. Yes, it was a girls weekend at a friends cabin on Lake Hickory, NC. The fall weather was fantastic!! We had a blast with great company, food and wine.

Before I left for the weekend, I finished up the quilt top and back for Cheri d’Amour.

A QDAD design, I had always designed this quilt for Cherie fabric by Frances Newcombe. I changed the original design slightly with the placement of the top and bottom lines.

I love Cherie’s black and white theme and the splash of color in the line. I hoped to highlight that splash of color with the pink and also the great detail in the prints.

For the back, I wanted to tie in the fabrics from the front and add more color. The main print, again from the Cherie line, pulls in the blue, pink and greys from the prints in the front. I think the panel would also make a great matching cushion.

Bloggers Quilt Festival: Neighbourhood

I am so excited for the opportunity to enter this quilt in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival, as it is definitely my favorite finished quilt so far.

Neighbourhood was one of my first designs I posted for Quilt Design a Day. The design reminded me of a neighbourhood block with houses and fences. When thinking about fabric, I knew I wanted to try Oakshott Colourshott Cottons with this one. Those vibrant colors would be perfect. I paired the 10 x 10″ Colourshott cottons with Kona Oyster.

Neighbourhood_Finished_Front_CloseupThe back of the quilt was made from left over scraps, designing as I went to produce these improv blocks. I love the look of the totem pole on the back. I really wanted it offset.

Neighbourhood_Finished_BackI struggled with the quilting on this one, as I did not want to take away from the design. I decided on straight line 1/2″ quilting but changed it up a little by adding angles. I used painters tape/washi tape for guides.
IMG_2519 I think one of my favourite decisions was the choice of the Aurifil #4658 wt. 50 (Sunshine Variegated Thread) which is so hard to capture in photos. It just adds that little something.Close-up Quilting_Neighbourhood

The B Side

I suffer a little from Quilting ADHD… I really do. As I mentioned before I really like working on the tops and then I typically loose interest. So this week, I have refocused on getting some of my backs (the B Side) finished so I can get to the quilting stage.

The second of the two backs are underway…it is the one for my Jungle Ave Tapa Quilt. Not overly complicated….I am using the ladder design also on the back with the fantastic elephant print. I love this print.

If anyone, has recommendations for a quilter, I am going to send at least one of these two quilts out for quilting (60 x 60″ or 60 x 70″). I have ideas for the Cheri d’Amour quilt but am struggling to come up with something for the Jungle Ave Tapa (design is here)…quilting suggestions are also welcome.
