QDAD: Quilt Design a Day (week 13)

I decided to create my own theme this week, Plus designs. I loved the focus on a single topic and will definitely try and do a few more of these.

Using a repeatable block design, with solids that represent the above colors.

I also decided to try this one in prints. I like how the differences between the solid vs. print a lot with this design.

This is one of my favorite designs this week. I love the color palette and the simplicity of the design.

Playing around with a repeatable block made up of the plus and arrows within a cross/plus layout. My favorite landed up being the second option which looks like a wonky totem.QDAD_Crossquilt3_18September_tower

The first option, I had as a full nested plus/cross.QDAD_Crossquilt3_18September

Thi s is the second design that I love this week. It was inspired by a game of Tic Tac Toe (Naughts and Crosses). The line for the two colored background represents the winning line.QDAD_TicTacToe_19September

There are two design competitions going on at the moment, so if you want to give designing a chance it is a great idea.

If you want to check out more of my QDAD designs you can find them here. Stay tuned for next week where I focus on a minimalism study using only red, white and black.

Almost there

This week, I am definitely trying to finish up the Neighbourhood quilt. I am about 3/4 of the way through quilting.

I am using the sunshine variegated Aurifil thread out of the Tula Pink Kit (#4658) to add some interest. I think it is looking good, those Oakshott Cottons look great!!Close-up Quilting_Neighbourhood

For my Cherie quilt, I picked out the Cherie fabrics from Frances Newcombe’s line. I want the quilt to be mostly made of the neutral fabrics with a slight pop of pink (like in the design, see link in the table).

So, last night while watching TV, I started laying out the initial blocks for the Quilt. Cherie_StartThat’s it for this week. Apologies for the photo’s…it has been raining here all day and the light has been terrible for photo’s.

Sunday Stash: Paint

A quick post, as I get back into the swing of things with Sunday Stash. Have you seen Carrie Bloomston’s new line “Paint”? I really like it. Here are the few pieces I picked up from Hawthorne Threads. I am still contemplating the flower prints as well.
