Sunday Stash #23: Colorshott Cottons

A couple of weeks back, I decided that I wanted to make this quilt design a reality.

“Neighbourhood”

After seeing the vibrancy and depth of Oakshott cottons in Adrianne’s and Juliet’s quilts, I really wanted to do this design in Oakshott cottons.

I decided to take a chance, and it worked out. Thanks to Michael Oakshott, I have these wonderful fabrics to work with.

Did you know that there are 57 Colourshott cottons now. Below are their two layer cakes (10″ squares) and sample books that make up the 57 fabrics.

I am thinking of using the fabrics below, for making up the above quilt design. I am trying to decided between either Flax yarn dyed linen or a neutral Kona (like bone, oyster or snow) as a background.

What colors interest you? Do you have a design you want to make into reality?

I will link this post up next week with Molli Sparkles for Sunday Stash (see button on the right).

Design to Reality

Making something from a design is always, for me a great accomplishment. I do not take a lot of my ideas/designs all the way to making it. Today, though, I have made this mini quilt top, which I may turn into place mats and a table runner.

The design I came up with for one of the “Quilt Design A Day” was this simple wonky chevron design.

That turned into this:

I paper pieced the wonky chevron design which is ~6″ x 10″. I am used peppered cottons for the chevrons purchased from my LQS (who also has an online store):

The sashing fabric is Flax Yarn Dyed Essex linen which I bought at Fresh Modern Fabrics.

That is my finish for this week, and linking up with Amanda Jean @ Crazy Mom Quilts.

QDAD: Quilt Design a Day (week 2)

Some folks last week asked about the details for the Quilt design a day. So here there are:

  • Quilt Design a Day is hosted by Anne over @ Play Crafts (check out her designs)
  • You can join the group via Facebook.
  • I use threadbias.com for designing, others are using EQ7 or Inkscape

This week I struggled a bit. There a couple of designs I like.

“Vineyard” reminded me of rows at a vineyard. This is one of my favorites of the week.QDAD_Vineyard_19June2014

I revisited my Tapa Cloth design from last week and used some blues.QDAD_21JUNE2014

I went with a mod design with this color palette. I initially loved the color palette but when I was adding it to the design I was not overly crazy about it.QDAD_ModTumblers_23June2014

This was a very literal interpretation of the inspiration. My “Ruffled feathers”QDAD_RuffledFeathers_24JUNE2014A

This design actually started tonight as a new placemat design in shades of green. I adapted that design to a quilt and changed the color palette.QDAD_WonkyHerringboneB_25June2014
