Bee participation and completed blocks

My weekend, well Saturday, was spent catching up and hitting deadlines for the two online bees I am participating in.

First off, I finally finished the first of two blocks for my March Scrap-bee-licious bee.

My stash bee blocks for April are completed. I did an angel block this month as well.

I am at an interesting point with my participation in bees. I joined both the bees I am in, for two different reasons.

  • The Scrap-bee-licious bee is for friendship, as it is made of some of the US-based bloggers that participated in Plum and June’s New Blogger Let’s get acquainted blog hop. I do like the camaraderie of this bee!! Everyone is fantastic.
  • The other one, Stash bee, I joined to get new skills and see what blocks are added each month.

However, I was so frustrated and a little disgruntled this weekend – I did not want to spend my Saturday making these blocks. I have so many other projects, I wanted to spend time on MY projects. I know I should not have left them to the last minute – but that’s me too :-). Do you all feel like that? How do you balance the commitments of a bee with your other stuff?

Anyway, our guild had a bee today, the kind which is more of a free sew….I decided to reward myself and sew something I wanted to sew. No deadlines. No expectations. I was much happier!!

Sunday Stash #15: Building ones stash

I have mentioned previously that I am trying to be more selective on the fabrics I choose. So, there are certain fabrics and colors that I use more than others like low volumes, text prints, blues, greens, oranges and yellows. I am always on the look out for prints that fit the bill….

TreasureMap_FabricsThese first ones are all from the fabric line Treasure Map by Lesley Grainger for Riley Blake. I loved the wave prints, grey is what I feature above. I think these prints are just good solid basics for any stash.

Detour_text_prints I love these text prints, image these as pillow/cushion backs!! The fabric line is Detour by Bo Bunny for Riley Blake.

low_volume_prints I have mixed feelings about the low volumes purchased here…well really its just the one print….I am not thrilled with the green sewing text print but I have been using it in some bee blocks and it looks ok. I can’t remember where I purchased these but I think it was on sale somewhere (doh…is that a bad sign).

That’s it for this weekend. Linking up with Molli Sparkles for Sunday Stash (see button on the right).

My week of sewing…Progress being made

I am loving my new machine. Thank you all, who commented and wished me fun on my new machine – sorry I have not had a chance to reply. I have a good reason though…I have been sewing most nights…

Over the weekend, I finished all my blocks for Carolyn Friedlander’s Mini Aerial quilt. I used various prints of Lotta Jansdotter’s lines (echo, bella, glimma, mormor and sylvia). I plan to finish the top for Friday.

AerialQuilt_FinishedBlocksI am pleased with how it is turning out. I think I am going to add some Essex-dyed Linen around the edge and possibly bind it in an eggplant print or teal print from the Lotta Jansdotter lines.

Monday night, I spent the time redesigning my sampler quilt to include the right colors based on the bundle I selected and adding the sashing. I also simplified a couple of blocks.

I then moved on to cutting and writing up the fabric requirements and cutting instructions for making the top row of this quilt. This is the fabric selection (check out this post for details), but I have decided to drop the pink and possibly use it for binding.

Tuesday, I was sewing up the second block of the top row, it turned out fantastic. I am so looking forward teaching the blocks at Spoonflower next month.

The rest of my week, I am planning on keeping up with my great progress:

  • Wednesday – last block of first row of my sampler quilt
  • Thursday – Photograph blocks + sewing together my aerial quilt blocks and finish top
  • Friday – Start 15/30 min. daily practice sessions for FMQ ( I plan on blogging my progress over the next two weeks – 1 month…maybe in a photo a day type style via instagram with a week blog summary??).

That’s it for my week of progress and activities. Keep an eye out for Book Review Tuesday next week – it will be a FMQ special.
