Finish it up Friday – Paper pieced Kiwi

I am so excited on how my first paper piecing project turned out. On Wednesday, I shared with you  the little kiwi I was embarking on. Here is the finished paper piecing block – I’ve framed it ready to be the front of a 18 inch cushion cover….

One of my March goals done – try a new technique, paper piecing. A big thank you to Juliet @ tartankiwi for the design and pattern, I had a lot of fun with it. I will definitely do more paper piecing.

Linking up with Amanda @ Crazy Mom Quilts for finish it up Friday.

My new work area

My craft area in our bonus room has come a long way. I love the changes we made to accommodate my renewed interests.

First off we made a floating sewing table in one of the alcoves. It was a great use of space. I got a cool new chair from West Elm and a desk lamp from CB2.

We moved my crafts project table (which was originally purchased from pottery barn) to be floating, so I can now work around all sides. We added a new bookcase (from West Elm) to help organize finished projects and ongoing projects; added storage baskets (felt gray one from West elm, Green tray also from West Elm, Dark weaved basket from Pottery Barn and the wood tray from Crate and Barrel).

The bookcase adds a framing element to my craft area and the new reading area. And today, our new couch (from CB2) arrived which adds a nice reading area which sits on the other side of the bookcase.

So that’s my new work area.

I also wanted to share two of my favorite walls I painted in our house. The first is my sons room which are squares that slightly wrap around the room; and the second is the guest room which is painted orange and I used white vinyl to create a tree and individual leaves decal.

Backyard Garden Design 3: Weekend Progress

As mentioned in the previous post, this weekend’s goal was to start and hopefully get the backyard garden done based on the design shown here.

Thank you to our weekend worker bee helpers – Dieter, Justin, Rob, Brian, and Chris…we wouldn’t be as far along as this without your help. Here is the progress so far.

  1. Draw, measure and line up the design
  2. Dig the lines out to put the sand.
  3. Move the sand and level out to put the wood blanks
  4. End of Day 1 – corners built
  5. Building up the walls (End of Day 2 of the weekend)

  6. All brackets hammered in to hold the wall, french drains in (weed fabric, pipes and gravel).
  7. Dirt being leveled out to full in the level/first tier.

Not too far away now, next steps:

  • Need more dirt to fill in the levels – probably another truck load
  • Need to find the concrete slab steps
  • Need to order and lay sod
