Weekend Progress

I am traveling for work this week, in theory, as it has started out with a cancelled flight and rescheduling for tomorrow. I am still optimistic, I will make it one way or another. As I will be out on Wednesday I wanted to share the progress made on the baby quilt I posted last week.

I have now completed the first row!! I love how easy this quilt is with 5 inch squares – everything I have tried so far has been much smaller.

The second row has been put up on the design board to get a sense of look and feel. I can’t wait to have some more time to work on it. I think the combination with Simply Color and Simply Style Charm Packs look great together and I really like the single color blocks.IMG_7784

I am hoping to have this quilt top finished this weekend. In the meantime, I had 5 hours sitting in the airport today sewing hexagons and plan on more hexies over the week while out on the road (loving the hand piecing).

Fabric Stash Additions {23.06.2013}

This week’s featured bundles were bought from the Fat Quarter Shop – an online store based here in the US but they do ship internationally. I love how their fat quarter bundles are packaged – they make them look so pretty, very hard to break them open and use the fabrics.

Anyway, I hadn’t really bought anything from the fat quarter shop in a while. I think the last purchases were Oh Deer! Moda Jelly Roll and this fat quarter bundle, which I finally opened to take these photo’s…

The fat quarter shop sent me an email coupon giving a percentage off since I hadn’t visited in a while. This is what I bought this time around.

This set of bundles I am thinking of using for the Tula Pink City Sampler Quilt along that is going on, over at flickr.IMG_7772

Technicolor Fat Quarter Bundle by Emily Herrick for Michael Miller Fabrics
This has been one of my favorite lines. There is not one print I dislike and the colors a phenomenal. IMG_7780

Indian Summer (both bundles) by Sarah Watson for Art Gallery Fabrics
I have been eyeing this for a while and can see many uses especially some of the low-volume prints. I like how subtle the colors of this line is but still very graphic/artistic.IMG_7770

Finish it up Friday {21.06.2013}: Hexagon Trivet + Winner

I was just reminded on the radio that it is the longest day of the year today. The scary thing is that means we are almost 1/2 way through the year….where did that time disappear? I have so much on my to do list still for the year, however, one of those items was the Patchwork Please Hexagon Trivet. Today, I have finished one!!

For those that do not know (I am assuming that will only be a few people), Patchwork, please is a great book of crafting/patchwork projects. I have rave reviews for this book , 5 stars, and the projects are simple and relatively quick.

Some of the projects, I have already made from the book include the pin cushion, pencil case and the market tote.

For the hexagon trivet, my favorite part is the center, featured fabric. A friend of mine that I meet in blogland, Melanie Paul @ The Original Thread, designs her own fabrics and sells them on Spoonflower.com (as Madex). The center fabric is one of hers, it is retro kitchenalia and comes in various colors. This was a paper-piecing pattern which was relatively easy, however I had two things to remember next time I make this:

  1. Choose my colors up front, I actually had Citrus and Navy originally and I did not like them so I unpicked the two rows (this was a little tedious).
  2. Since, I also did this late in the evening, I continually made mistakes on which line I should be sewing on, which meant more unpicking. Note to self: should not do projects after 11pm.

Here is the back, it is using left over scraps from the Les Amis fabric line.
