On Friday, I posted about finishing the front of my first baby quilt, Simply Stars. Well, I had a pretty productive weekend and made significant progress on that quilt. It is not finished but I thought I would share some sneak peeks of the progress I made.
This is the quilt back. I made a panel with 3 wonky stars but in the reverse of the front….the back pieces are white, while the stars are made of Simply Color and Simply Style Charm Packs. For the rest of the back, the green solid woven with yellow fabric used as a border for the star panel and the striped fabric, I had to go shopping at my LQS. What a shame !!!
Since I finished the back in record time, I started quilting on Sunday. I am using an ultra wavy line quilting, which Janice from Better of Thread featured here, and sewing in Grey Aurifil thread. I am about 1/2 way through so here is a sneak peek of the front.
A couple of close-up photos of the quilting through the stars. The only other quilting I have done has been on a smaller scale, like in pillows (and here) and the Madrona Road mini quilt….so I am super happy how this is turning out. It is not perfect, it is so much harder sewing a much bigger object. I am loving the grey thread. The main thing is I am having fun, and I am sure the imperfections will just add character :-).
I am hoping to show it off on Friday – which will depend on how my work week goes.
I am linking up today with Beth @ Plum and June “Lets get acquainted“.
What imperfections?? It’s perfect. 🙂
Thanks, you are wonderful.
the big, wavy quilting, the wonky stars, and the striped binding all work so well together to give the quilt such a neat look! it’s great!
🙂 Kelly
Thank you 🙂 I hope it all works out and I can finish it soon. Fingers crossed.
This quilt looks great! I live the bright colors and the wavy quilting lines look really nice. Good luck on your Friday goal!
Thank you 🙂
This looks fantastic! Can’t wait to see the finished product 🙂
I can’t wait to see the whole quilt back. Detailed quilt backs are my favorite. You are super-quick! This one is just coming right together.
Thankfully – otherwise it will live on my couch until I get the motivation to continue it. That is what happened to my 4 seasons in one day quilt 😦
It is beautiful! The wavy quilting is a perfect complement to the stars. I love it!
Wonky stars are so much fun especially in those beautiful colours and fun fabrics you’ve used. The quilting looks great too, I like the grey thread.
loving that wavy quilting! i want to try that – do you do one and then “follow it” or do you change up the wave on each one? does that even make sense? i am LOVING that border- stunning!
I follow for a few lines and then change it up. Janice does a great job explaining this as she draws out her plan in the link….I am terrible at pre drawing/planning I do this more as an improv thing 😉
Simply wonderful!
Thank you 🙂
