Sunday Stash #23: Colorshott Cottons

A couple of weeks back, I decided that I wanted to make this quilt design a reality.

“Neighbourhood”

After seeing the vibrancy and depth of Oakshott cottons in Adrianne’s and Juliet’s quilts, I really wanted to do this design in Oakshott cottons.

I decided to take a chance, and it worked out. Thanks to Michael Oakshott, I have these wonderful fabrics to work with.

Oakshott-Button

Did you know that there are 57 Colourshott cottons now. Below are their two layer cakes (10″ squares) and sample books that make up the 57 fabrics.

I am thinking of using the fabrics below, for making up the above quilt design. I am trying to decided between either Flax yarn dyed linen or a neutral Kona (like bone, oyster or snow) as a background.

What colors interest you? Do you have a design you want to make into reality?

I will link this post up next week with Molli Sparkles for Sunday Stash (see button on the right).

New quilt design (9 block sample) + Modern Bee winner redraw

Merry Christmas to all my family and friends (including those in the virtual world :-))!!!

Sorry for those that are expecting a Book Review Tuesday, today. Unfortunately, I am knee-deep in Christmas gift making still. I know, I know, I have only 6 hours of awake time left. Book Review Tuesday will return next week. The last book review giveaway “Modern Bee” (see review here) did not get claimed…..so the new winner is:

#80 and this is Stephanie @ Quarter Incher

I am thinking about teaching some quilting classes next year. I have been playing around with designing new blocks for a sample quilt. Each block has a finishing size of 12″. Many of the designs have been inspired from wall paper, upholstery or tiles. This is my first effort. I am really liking it, and think some of the blocks could be a great overall quilt design as well.

Another thought was to change-up the bottom left hand corner to include circles:

Or change-up the color Palette (Nay, Red, Grey, Black and White):

I would love to hear your feedback. Would you take a class that covers each block, maybe in 3 sessions??

Riley Blake MQG Challenge – Design complete

Have you seen the Riley Blake Modern Quilt Guild Challenge?? Our guild handed out fabric sometime in October. I have only started now, and until now I had no idea what I was going to do.

Here are the fabrics (picture from MQG page):
RBBasics

The Navy gingham, Hipster Orange, Yellow Polka dots and the Aqua/Teal zig-zag fabrics made me think of different phases of a fine day.

Sunrise: Yellows + Oranges
Mid-day: Yellows + bright blues
Sunset: Purples + Pinks
Evening: Navy blues + Blacks

This lead to this design “A Fine Day”. Each of the color blocks will be improv scrap blocks, not solid as in the design below.

AFineDay

I plan to quilt it with some circular quilting on the lower half and then radiating lines on the top 1/2 in various colored thread.

In the challenge, you can add any Riley Blake fabric + any solid. Tomorrow, I will post some of my additional fabric choices.

Are you entering the Challenge? What are your plans?
