Sunday Stash #21: The illusive coral + Winner

At least once a month, I have decided to pull fabrics that represent a specific color. When I started collecting fabric 18 months ago, it was hard to get the right colors for a project without trial and error in purchasing. So, I hope this helps folks find that right fabric for the right project at some stage. If you have specific colors in mind let me know.

Today, the color is coral. It is a peachy looking color which meant, for me, this is not the easiest  of colors to get right.  You don’t want it to be too pink or too orange.  I also like it when I can have a color in a variety of values and saturation. Here was my selection from my stash:

In case you would like to pick up any of the fabrics…from left to right:

This color works well with darker blues. So you can see them in action, here are some blocks I made up with various blue prints:

I am linking up with Molli Sparkles for Sunday Stash (see button on the right).

Lastly, the winner of my birthday giveaway, from last week is:

Gypsy Wife Quilt Along + Winner of Pillow Pop

Have you see the buzz around Gypsy Wife Pattern? Does this not look interesting and exciting?? Possibly a challenge or a great gift for next Christmas?

Gypse_Wife_large

Intrepid Threads and Amitie Textiles are both offering BOM’s (Block of the Month) for this quilt. I really want to do this pattern but I did not want to do a BOM, where fabric is provided as part of the price. The reason, simply is, I have enough fabric and I would like to make my own Gypsy Wife blocks with my current stash.

Talking with Kristel @ Work in Progress Girl and Daisy @ Ants to Sugar, they were both:

  1. Interested in this pattern (and have it already)
  2. Interested in making and following a group of folks who are also interested in making it, so we can meet and experience it with others.

As we were talking, we thought it would be fun to do a Quilt Along (Gypsy Wife Quilt Along). Details are still being worked out but the general idea will be:

  1. Join in with us, on flickr – Gypsy Wife QAL. Grab a button, if you want for your blog (see below).
  2. Schedule will be posted at the end of this week. Expect it to have a feature block and a couple of filler blocks per month. First month for blocks would be February and the final blocks to finish up in December.
  3. Buy your pattern, and select your fabric, in January.
  4. A link-up will be provided each month, where you can link-up a post or pictures (i.e. Blog is not necessary).

I bought my pattern @ Westwood Acres on Saturday, and it arrived yesterday (Monday). I have added additional online shops that offer the pattern for purchasing, to a post, on Flickr.

I am also, looking into getting a couple of give aways for folks that link-up, during the year.  If you are interested in participating in the giveaway’s, please send me an email: ml_wilkie@hotmail.com.

Here’s the button you can use and I hope to see y’all over on Flickr.

New quilt design (9 block sample) + Modern Bee winner redraw

Merry Christmas to all my family and friends (including those in the virtual world :-))!!!

Sorry for those that are expecting a Book Review Tuesday, today. Unfortunately, I am knee-deep in Christmas gift making still. I know, I know, I have only 6 hours of awake time left. Book Review Tuesday will return next week. The last book review giveaway “Modern Bee” (see review here) did not get claimed…..so the new winner is:

#80 and this is Stephanie @ Quarter Incher

I am thinking about teaching some quilting classes next year. I have been playing around with designing new blocks for a sample quilt. Each block has a finishing size of 12″. Many of the designs have been inspired from wall paper, upholstery or tiles. This is my first effort. I am really liking it, and think some of the blocks could be a great overall quilt design as well.

Another thought was to change-up the bottom left hand corner to include circles:

Or change-up the color Palette (Nay, Red, Grey, Black and White):

I would love to hear your feedback. Would you take a class that covers each block, maybe in 3 sessions??
