December Scrap-bee-licious blocks finished

This month’s theme of anything Christmas, was very appropriately chosen by  Nicole @ Modern Handcraft. It also allowed me to use my scraps from the Christmas Stocking, use fabrics I have purchased but not used, and finally try out two block patterns I have on my pinterest site.

Block 1: Christmas Tree Block was inspired by this one by Katie’s Korner.

Block 2: Christmas Gift Tags is one of my favorite blocks I have made so far. I used the idea in this flickr image from Ayumi Takahashi. Aren’t they fantastic. I couldn’t find a pattern so I created a paper piecing pattern, where each of the blocks are 6 x 6 inches (finished so this block below is 12 x 12).

If you would like the directions or the paper piecing of either of the two blocks,  let me know and I can share how I made these. ChristmasSrapbeeliciousBlocks

2014 – Looking forward

After reading Daisy’s post @ Ants to Sugar, instead of going a fabric diet, I am going to plan out my year (see: Amy’s post @ Badskirt on Curate) to control my fabric purchases and other aspects of my crafty doings.

So,  this post is to see what my year will look like. Take stock on what I am participating in. Also, take a look at my goals.

Goals (keeping it simple)

  • First off, I need to be realistic….I will be doing very well, if I can finish a quilt a month.  Luckily all of them, have more or less been started, so I think this is doable. I will be participating in “A Lovely Year of Finishes” to stay on track.
  • Host Book Review Tuesday every two weeks
  • New Project – Borders and lines (see below)
  • Attempt to be published in a quilting magazine
  • Teach a quilting class
  • Maintain posting a recipe per week

Balance + New Project

I was fascinated a while back, as one of the blogs I followed, posted about the Sketchbook Project, run by the Brooklyn Art Library. You receive a sketchbook and your job is to fill the pages on a given theme.  I was inspired by one of the themes, they had in the list “Borders and lines”.

To get balance back with the other art areas that I enjoy, I have decided to start a year long project to explore “Borders + Lines” in multitude of media. I plan to check in at a minimum once every two months to share what I have done.

New quilt design (9 block sample) + Modern Bee winner redraw

Merry Christmas to all my family and friends (including those in the virtual world :-))!!!

Sorry for those that are expecting a Book Review Tuesday, today. Unfortunately, I am knee-deep in Christmas gift making still. I know, I know, I have only 6 hours of awake time left. Book Review Tuesday will return next week. The last book review giveaway “Modern Bee” (see review here) did not get claimed…..so the new winner is:

#80 and this is Stephanie @ Quarter Incher

I am thinking about teaching some quilting classes next year. I have been playing around with designing new blocks for a sample quilt. Each block has a finishing size of 12″. Many of the designs have been inspired from wall paper, upholstery or tiles. This is my first effort. I am really liking it, and think some of the blocks could be a great overall quilt design as well.

Another thought was to change-up the bottom left hand corner to include circles:

Or change-up the color Palette (Nay, Red, Grey, Black and White):

I would love to hear your feedback. Would you take a class that covers each block, maybe in 3 sessions??
