Fabric Stash {07.07.2013}: Yellow, Yellow, Yellow

When you think of yellow, what pops into your head??
“We all live in a Yellow Submarine – Beetles”
“Yellow – Cold Play”
“You are my sunshine – Jimmy Davis”
“Follow the yellow brick road – Wizard of Oz”

Last week, in desperate need to add yellow to my stash, I showed you the mosaic I built from images from Fabricworm.com. I really was looking for more bright yellow, with a few of mustards.

I ordered all the fabric from Fabricworm.com, except for the Glimma fabric as I already had it. It arrived and I am pretty happy with the selection. There is a range from bright yellow –> mustard –> Citrus’y.

Citrus/Citron colored fabric on the left (my least favorites, I was just not quiet expecting these to be so green/lime in color):

Mustards (great for the darker toned yellow stash…adds some depth):

In addition to the fabrics, I purchased at Fabricworm this week, I also made the following additions to my yellow stash, all of which I really like.

That’s it from me this week, I am definitely now stocked up with yellow. Linking up with Fiona @ Finding Fifth for Sunday Stash.

Finish it up Friday{05.07.2013}: Baby Quilt top

First off, it’s my sister’s birthday today. Happy Birthday Sis.

The other big news today is that I finished my first baby quilt top (that now makes 1 x mini quilt, and 1 x twin quilt top)…yippee !!!

Simply Stars
I love V and Co. “Simply” charm packs. They are so bright and colorful. The designs are very geometric but still whimsical, perfect for a baby quilt. The other great thing about this quilt, is it came together really quickly. Each star block took me about 30 minutes, and each 9 block took about 15 minutes. I love that it was so quick and easy.

After much practice, I think I finally have the knack for matching square blocks. I am very proud how aligned everything is. I was able to take some quick photos this afternoon which is very lucky as we have had thunderstorms/rain every afternoon for the last two weeks. Today is perfect weather!!!

Finish it up Friday {28.06.2013} : The Royal-X-Plus paper piecing block

Firstly, some of this content you would have seen from Wednesday post please go over and check out the my “Let’s get acquainted New bloggers” post….check out the other participant’s posts for this week.

I am so excited today as I am introducing my first paper piecing pattern…

“Royal – X – Plus Block”TealOrange_Royal_X_PlusBlock

The block reminds me of a mashup of a union jack and the X & + Block (hence the name). It was inspired by a floor tile. I would consider this Intermediate due to the joins but an easy sew since they are all straight lines. The biggest tip I can give, is when joining the 3 sections using opposite pressed seams to match the pieces up (like you would matching up a row of squares).

I reached out to others participating in the New Bloggers blog hop and a big thank you goes out to my three testers that tested my pattern. I am so appreciative of the work and great feedback. Here are their blocks:

Cath @ Wombat Quilts, who posts a paper piece block every Monday which are always amazing!! She made her block 11.5 x 11.5″. finished block

Alison @ Making Happyness, who is a newbie at paper piecing. Her first paper piecing was a beautiful rose.Ali @ Making Happyness

Lisa @ Hilltop House Creative Works, made this very cute mini quilt from the block. I could definitely use this as a mug rug or a pot holder/trivet….don’t you think??DSC01700

In the process of making the pattern I tried a couple of blocks, and after feedback from Alison I wanted to show you all how a couple of blocks would work together.Royal_X_Cross_Blocks

You can get the free pattern from Craftsy, here. If you try it out I would love to know, so I invite you to post photo’s of your finished block on my Paper Piecing Flickr Group.
