Q3 Goals + July ALYoF

This month/quarter I am definitely concentrating on my WiP pile, which gets larger every month somehow??.

My number one goal for this quarter and July is to finish my “Phased Circles” Quilt. I already know how I am quilting the top but I do not know what I am doing for the back…except it will be using black and white prints of Carolyn Friedlander’s lines. I was thinking that will add a nice balance to the colors on the front.

Other finishes, I want to aim for this quarter are:

  • Wonky Herringbone Place mats + Tutorial inclusive of block designPlacemats _basted

That’s it I think, might as well aim high 😉

Scrap-bee-licious July Block: Drunkard Path

We are nearing the end of our Scrap-bee-licious bee group, two months to go. For July, I am queen. It took me a while to choose my design. I wanted a design that could be a challenge but fun. So, I decided to look at what I would like to do, have not tried, and needed a little push to get started. The decision…drunkard path blocks.

I have been collecting inspiration on Pinterest for a while, I have included links below, please refer back to original posts

My Bee Block:
I would like drunkard path blocks which have the circle part made with one of these colors (preferably the 5 right colors). These can be either solid or print (just no prints with animals or characters on it and modern fabrics please).

The outer ring should be a solid neutral such as in the Kona ranges (which you do not have to use)….Bone, Neutral, Oyster, White, Sliver or Shadow.

Here is an example:

I do not as yet have a plan on how I am using the blocks. But we are going to use the template E and F at the back of ” A Quilter’s Mixology” for the drunkard path block. It makes a 7″ block. The sewing instructions are on pages 14-16. Everyone in Scrap-bee-licious, who has confirmed their addresses has a book on its way 🙂

Scrap-bee-licious folks, let me know if you have any other questions.  Hopefully that clarifies it somewhat.

QDAD: Quilt Design a Day (Week 3)

This week, I had some time to play with the designs I came up with, and switch out colors. The previous two weeks can be found here:

  • Week 2 (contains details on what “Quilt Design a Day” is – so check it out if you missed it)
  • Week 1

Inspired by a typeset tray and blocks “Type Set Tray”.QDAD_TypeSetTray_26June2014

I played with this design in other color palettes and came up several others, here are a couple:QDAD_typesettray_26June2014_blue QDAD_typesettray_26June2014Blue_yellow

For today, I used both the cool and warm color palettes and played with arrow-like squares/pine-cone like design. In the cool colors it looks almost like a snowflake:

The warm color palette, I like both a neutral background and the bright background:QDAD_29JUNE2014_BirdPaletteLight QDAD_29JUNE2014_BirdPaletteBright

Inspired by a graphical print/drawing. These “Mod Crosses” are a 9 pieced block that I play with 2 colors and a neutral and their layout:

I then decided it may be even better if I use the neutral as the sashing, as well, and play more with the negative space….definitely love this one better:QDAD_30JUNE2014_modcrosses_negativespace

I loved the variety of this color palette and wanted to play with softer lines. The design is specifically one I could use appliqué with.QDAD_02July2014

This design was inspired by a backgammon game board. In this cool color palette transforms it into icicles.
