Sewing Room Updates/Progress

A while back I posted about my sewing room (here and here), which I have to say I love and was working for me. I still have not resolved my design wall issue (I am still using portable boards), but I have made some other updates that are still in progress. I will admit, I am having to work out how to use all my space, as I need more room mostly due to fabric buys and WiPs/Projects for the year.

So come, enjoy an updated tour 🙂

First off, I added wall shelves at the back of my storage desk over the weekend. I have labelled everything for you all on whats on the shelves. I have two more additions (see edits in blue), I want to make:

  1. Adding a rack at the bottom of the shelves for hanging quilts etc.
  2. Adding an open magazine rack to the side to store Accuquilt dies. (thinking about this one from Ikea)

These are the items already to go and be hung on the rack when it’s up.HangingObjectsReady

In between the project desk/cutting table/fabric storage and my sewing machine, I plan to hang my craft storage board I made (with the hubby’s help).

I want to say, I work better when things are more organized. I am not sure if this is me procrastinating or actually coming up with more creative ways to store fabric…anyway the next photos show, in my re-organization, I have invested in project bins for my 2014 goals.

My bookcase + Project Rack are full of lots of possible projects, some additional supplies and my craft books.

I found a great use for the space under the couch 🙂ProjectBoxStorage_Couch

Finally, I thought I would give you an overview of the main space, with the current updates collectively.

Sunday Stash {18.08.2013} + Sewing Room

Remember the post where I was playing around with the palette builder by Anne @ Play Crafts,  and how cool it was that it now supports the Kona Cotton palette. Well, that and the sale on Kona cottons at Fat Quarter led to this:

Stash_Solids

Yes, 29 new Kona solids have been added to my fabric stash. This purchase, finally had the hubby asking ” Where are you going to put it all”. Then comment just so long as you can fit it all in the shelving I am ok. You will be pleased to know with a little organizing they all fit.

I had shared with you a couple of photos on my fabric stash and sewing room of late. To consolidate so I can share on Studio Spotlight link-up, here is my sewing room and stash storage.

The Sewing Space:
I love the natural light I get with the sewing machine in the alcove there. The Pottery Barn project table has been amazing – so worth the money.SewingRoom

Upcoming Project Storage & Book Case:
The Project Storage is new, purchased from PB Teen. The bookcase (from west elm) is invaluable for storing my Scrap Bins, Linen, Charm Packs, Corduroy, Mens Ties, Batting, Zippers, Finished Projects etc. I love how it matches.

Rainbow Fabric Stash:
The majority of my fabric is stored by color in one side of my Project table. It is a 3 x 3 cubbies, and I store my fabric using Comic Book Boards.FabricStash

Fabric Collections & Solids:
So, this side of the project table has been recently reorganized, as of this morning, to incorporate those new solids and the collections I have shown the last couple of weeks.FabricStash_CollectionsSolids

The last thing in my sewing room I love is the “break area”.

Break Area:
The sofa of course now has my yellow & grey Kiwi cushion and the Spoonflower bolster cushion to help with the quiet creative thinking time 😉

Organizing my sewing room

I have slowly been revamping my sewing space and upgrading it over time. One of the bigger remaining areas that bugged me was how I organized my upcoming projects. I had one basket and all projects (well the materials) stacked in that basket. So, I had been looking for a while for some way to organize my sewing projects. I was thinking about some kind of shelving + bin mechanism but in keeping with the rest of my sewing room.

I have fixed my problem and I love it. I bought a basket wall hanger from PBTeen last week, which was 20% off + free shipping (yippee!!). It arrived yesterday and installed it last night.

The basket I was using for my projects came in handy, as I used it to pack my projects for our vacation which starts today….all ready to leave to Charleston. IMG_7896
