Free pattern for gift tags

Remember this block from my Scrap-bee-licious December blocks, last week? I got several requests for the pattern.ChristmasPresentTagsBlock

Well, after talking with Ayumi Takahashi, who inspired this block design with her flickr image, she graciously agreed to let me write-up the pattern of my block above and make it available.

I am making the paper piecing pattern available for free, on Craftsy here. It will be available, in future, via the button on my right hand menu.

I hope you have fun with it…..I am thinking of making a couple up for Valentines Day and make them as postcards. If you make any up, feel free to add your end results to my Flickr group, I would love to see what you make with it.

Paper Piecing Party

Sunday Stash #1-2014

I have been planning for a long time now, to make a quilt for my son. I have finally put it on my goal list for 2014, August for his birthday.

I had purchased a Fat Quarter Bundle of Constellations a while back (March 2013 from Westwood arces), and made this cushion (the wonky universe) from it.

That gave me the idea to make a quilt from the same fabric….but the question arose…..will I have enough with only having fat quarters?? It was a little late to start thinking about this, as now, the fabric was hard to find. Then, low and behold last month, Hawthorne Threads got more of it in stock – it’s not everything but it has the best of the prints. I bought 1/2 yards of everything they had.

Here are the designs,  I am choosing between for my son’s quilt. I am leaning towards the first one.

This was one of my recent fabric purchases I had  a defined use up front for, which is what I am trying to accomplish this year :-). Linking up with Molli Sparkles, for the first week of Sunday Stash in 2014.

Tapa Star Blocks

A while back, I was playing around with designing a block based on this Samoan Tapa cloth (image from island style.net.au) :

I used the star pattern on the top right/bottom left and came up with two paper piecing pattern designs.  The first one of the blocks which just used solids for the outer shapes is complete. I used the monochromatic green look, and the Architextures fabric that I had in the original design. The design, I recently realized, was similar to the secondary pattern that a Kaleidoscope block makes.

The second block is underway, which interprets the stripy appeareance of the original Tapa Cloth. I will try to update this post tomorrow with the finished block so you can see it, as it is a little more work.

If you are interested in testing out the paper piecing patterns, let me know. There will be two patterns both blocks are 15 x 15″ (finished).

iPad/iPhone/e-Reader Stands

I also finished up two more iPad/iPhone/e-Reader Stands, that I will be putting in my Etsy store later today. I love these two, the gray one is Riley Blake’s Zombie Apocalypse Fabric + the blue one is a Spoonflower print that has a Doctor Who theme.

Is anyone interested in either doing a link-up at the end of the month or a swap on flickr for these stands? I have had a lot of interest in the tutorial and thought it would be great to either make one as a group or do a swap.  What do you think?  Which one would you prefer?
