WiP Wednesday: What’s on your design wall??

What is on your design wall at the moment?? I love seeing other people’s design walls – have you noticed they  always looks so colorful.

If you have a photo/post, leave a link below in the comments, or post it on Instagram with a tag @ml_wilkie (that’s me…. I can see it :-)).

Here is my design wall, with all my WiPs. Unfortunately, this has not changed too much, the whole month.

WiPWall_29JANLeft Board: X & + Blocks (Goal Date: Feb); Middle Board: Riley Blake Challenge – Block 1 of 4 (top left, goal date Jan….Feb17th ultimately), January Stash Bee Block (Top Right), Tapa Star Pillow+ Pattern (Goal date: Feb); Right Board: Pillow Denyse Schmidt Fabric, for Pillow PopQAL.

It is a snow day, here in Cary North Carolina (first one, YAY!!). My focus is to finish of the Hive #3 Stash Bee Block today, and get it in the mail by 3pm. I have procrastinated over this block for long enough :-). I just have to sew all the pieces together now.

Hopefully, I can also get in some time to finish the first two Riley Blake Challenge Blocks. I don’t think I will meet my “A lovely year of finishes” goal of have that quilt finished. But, maybe, by the end of this weekend I can have the top finished??

A quick update, for the Gypsy Wife Quilt Along there is still time to join (click on the link for details)….Most importantly, patterns are again stocked and available @ Westwood acres, (9 available) and Modern Quilter (23 available).

Sewing Room Updates/Progress

A while back I posted about my sewing room (here and here), which I have to say I love and was working for me. I still have not resolved my design wall issue (I am still using portable boards), but I have made some other updates that are still in progress. I will admit, I am having to work out how to use all my space, as I need more room mostly due to fabric buys and WiPs/Projects for the year.

So come, enjoy an updated tour 🙂

First off, I added wall shelves at the back of my storage desk over the weekend. I have labelled everything for you all on whats on the shelves. I have two more additions (see edits in blue), I want to make:

  1. Adding a rack at the bottom of the shelves for hanging quilts etc.
  2. Adding an open magazine rack to the side to store Accuquilt dies. (thinking about this one from Ikea)

These are the items already to go and be hung on the rack when it’s up.HangingObjectsReady

In between the project desk/cutting table/fabric storage and my sewing machine, I plan to hang my craft storage board I made (with the hubby’s help).

I want to say, I work better when things are more organized. I am not sure if this is me procrastinating or actually coming up with more creative ways to store fabric…anyway the next photos show, in my re-organization, I have invested in project bins for my 2014 goals.

My bookcase + Project Rack are full of lots of possible projects, some additional supplies and my craft books.

I found a great use for the space under the couch 🙂ProjectBoxStorage_Couch

Finally, I thought I would give you an overview of the main space, with the current updates collectively.

WiP: Book Review Tuesday

Yes, I am late for Book Review Tuesday,  this week. It is likely to be a Book Review Thursday, as the project for the book, is running a little behind. This is my first week back at work. Did it shock your system to go back after the Christmas break? It sure has been a shock to me 🙂

My project for the Book Review is a mini appliqué quilt, that I am calling “Hothouse Orchids”. This is my first all over appliqué quilt, and I am learning a lot while I try out this new method.

I am hoping to post a finish tomorrow, so stay tuned for the finish + giveaway. I will say the book I am posting about is a new favorite!!! Love it!!
