Kaleidoscope of Butterflies + Oopsy-daisy

Did you know that multiples of butterflies are called by numerous names? Some of those include swarm, rabble and my favorites a flight or a kaleidoscope of butterflies. So for my work in progress, the butterfly baby quilt, the name has been decided… “Kaleidoscope of Butterflies”.

I have definitely made progress this week on the butterflies and almost have 3 finished. The large 10″ teal and pink butterfly, I am very happy with….even snuck in there some Botanics (a favorite line).

The 8″ Orange and Pink Butterfly is almost there and sneaking in some Safari Moon fabric (another favorite line).

Here is an overview of all three…….and I decided I am adding 1 more 5″ butterfly to balance the Orange and Pinks.

Don’t forget to check out last week’s post for the Juliet’s butterfly paper-piecing patterns.

Now, to my oopsy-daisy. Remember my sewing room additions for Ikea storage shelves, seen here:

Well, the other night I heard a huge crash…thinking it was the boys (the hubby and son) I rushed outside…but everything was fine. I was confused as I could not find the reason behind the crash. Well, later that night I found this and lots of broken glass:

That resulted in a complete reorganization of my space. This is how my room looked originally:

This is now my new space…the bookcase, project table (fabric storage) + sewing room:

….and the holes are temporarily fixed with a design wall:

Sunday Stash #17: Grey Bundle

Last week,  both Ashley and Kate commented on pulling great stash fabric. Thank you and this post is for you guys 🙂

I love fabric!! My husband would definitely agree with me, when I say “I am an addict and proud of it”. I started off without much of a stash, but over the last 6-8 months that has been rectified.  Now, one of my favorite things to do is pull fabrics and put them together and see how different they can be with fabrics not from the same line.

One of my favorite core colors is grey, it is so versatile. You can use it

  • As a main color – this is an example with my Lotta Aerial quiltLottaAerialQuilt
  • or you can use it as a background fabric, whether it be a pattern/low volume
    Kea_InsideView
  • or as a solid, neutral

I recently bought a variety of grey fabrics and I thought I would share my bundle. These will be a staple in upcoming quilts.

“Hot House Orchids” : Entry for Bloggers Quilt Festival

So, this is my second quilt I am entering in Amy’s Bloggers Quilt Festival.

AmysCreativeSide.com

I loved this project for so many reasons:

  • The study of the color radiant orchid
  • My first ever appliqué quilt
  • I was exploring the using of lines and borders and inspired by Quilting: Color + Lines  by Yoshiko Jinzenji

HothouseOrchids_Front

The fabric for the front is Alison Glass’ line Clover Sunshine, which has such fabulous colors.

I just used some irregular straight line quilting on this one, to ensure the quilting did not take away from the study of lines.
HothouseOrchids_Back

Name: Hothouse Orchids
Size:
 18″ x 19″
Fabric (front): Clover Sunshine by Alison Glass, Kona Violet (sashing), Kona White (background)
Fabric (back): Ludovika from Ikea
Quilting: Straight line quilting – various width bands with invisible thread.

I am entering this one to the appliqué quilt section. You should take a look, I already have a favorite in this category….the one with all the chairs….LOVE IT!!

Do you have a favorite yet??
