February goal check

This weekend has been really productive!!!, and it means that I am closer to my February Goals. If you remember, I linked up with A lovely year of finishes  and The Girl who Quilts (and I won the give-away, which is so cool!!!)
A Lovely Year of Finishes The Girl Who Quilts

This is a check-in on where my goals are.

  1. As mentioned on Friday 1st, complete top and back of my “Four Seasons in one day” (named after a crowded house song)
I have now almost completed the top – I worked out a way to make the border in more of a block instead of a string which gave me more manageable pieces to work with. I also worked out the corner pieces as well 🙂

  2. Finish 4 sets of chair bags.
I have cut out 2 sets of chair bags but have not started sewing yet.
  3. Finish 4 sets of pot holders.
I have 3 sets of pot holders completed…our kitchen is a light green – these are the ones I made for use in our kitchen.

  4. Cut out fabric for my son’s quilt.
    Not started yet
  5. Triple zip pouch.
    Fabric and other materials selected.
  6. Try out a paper piecing block.
Not started yet but I have something in mind.

More general goals

  1. Continue with Life Style Challenge.
    See yesterday’s update here.
  2. Post 3 times a week min.
Check – doing well. I also joined Pinterest, I was struggling with just using bookmarks to find things I liked in the www. Let me know if you have a site or which sites you would recommend I follow.
  3. Post a new recipe each week.
    Check – doing well

Finish it up Friday

It definitely was a “Finish it up Friday” (linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts)

Professionally:
I was flat out all week with work, as my team and I had a major project deadline today. Good news, we got it done.

At home:
Our house is back to normal  – all the damage from the burst water pipe, last week, was completed today!!!

Now, for my craft projects:
Obviously, I did not have much time this week but I did get 1/2 way through one of my February goals  – I completed two sets of quilted pot holders (my goal is to do 4). The Blue teapot set is now available on my etsy store. So, even though it is a small finish I am happy to have completed something in my list of craft projects for February.

Celebrating 100th day of Kindergarten

It has been a few months since I posted a craft/art project my son (whose 5 1/2) and I have worked on together. The objective of this project was to complete the homework assignment for the 100th day in Kindergarten (due Tuesday 12th Feb).

Objective:

  • To complete the project your child will need to collect 100 items
Sean has been collecting beer bottle tops for a while now. He counted out 100 tops (all on his own).
  • After collecting the items they will decide how they will display them. Your child should bring their project to school to share with the class.
Sean decided we could make a spaceship out of recycled materials (he was given several options to choose from 😉 )
  • Have fun and be creative
I think Sean did a great job, don’t you think so !!

Materials:

  • 100 x beer bottle caps
  • 1×1.25L Coke Bottle (for the rocket body)
  • 1 x large laundry detergent bottle (for the wings)
  • 100 x Craft Glue dots (for the body) and some Glue stripes (for the nose)
  • 4 x 1/8 rivets (to adhere the wings)
  • 1 x can of white spray paint (for body)
  • 1 x can of black spray paint (for nose)
  • Stickers (Sean choose his flags and 100 stickers)

Surprisingly enough, Sean stuck on most of the beer bottle tops and with supervision we spray painted the bottle, once dried he stuck on the stickers.

As parents, we cut the shapes of the wings and the bottle, so the wings hold, with a blade and then used rivets to hold the wings in place.

We are still thinking of adding flames out of paper, so it can launch 🙂
