WiP Wednesday {29.05.2013} : Hexagons and HST

The long weekend has definitely impacted my schedule this week. While on the beach, watching the kids I was able to use some scraps and made up some hexagons. I now have 37 pieced together.  Any ideas on what I should make with these? I was thinking of a pillow or a baby quilt (if I am over zealous 🙂 )….maybe just a portable blanket for a car seat/pram (push chair). What do you all do?

The other project, I was working on last week for our quilt guild pillow swap….well, I am not as far as I wanted to be, but I have made steady slow progress. I have sewed 30 of the 50 squares together.

To make the 1/4 inch line on each side of the diagonal, I used a Quarter Inch Seam Marker Ruler. It worked great, I purchased it at Joann’s – a set of three, however I can not find it online to share at Joann’s so here is one similar I found at Amazon. I am sure you can find them everywhere though. I just used the middle line of the ruler, to line up the opposite corners (ie. the diagonal) and drew a line on either side with a pencil marker…then sewed down the lines. So simple, when I measured my squares – they are 2.5 inches around!!!  🙂

Weekend finishes: Pillows

I was so thrilled this week when I found that Janice @ Better of Thread highlighted my Market Tote on her website, after I shared it on her Sew Tuesday link up. I hope you go over and check out the link up, its lots of fun.

Over the weekend, I finished the two postage stamp pillows that were blogged here and here (check out these blogs for close up shots and fabric used). I love how they turned out. Here are the final looks:

For the first time, I used invisible zippers for the back opening, across the middle, for both pillows. I love how these look instead of my usual envelope backing:

And now more photos of these pillows all finished:

Above is my collage of my finished works for April. I am pretty pleased with what was accomplished. I got a little distracted with Pillows and projects from Patchwork Please but I had had so much fun which is what it is all about.  Great news this week, I also got an order for 5 chair bags….so I am off to work on those 🙂

Here were my goals and where they landed up. My extra projects pictured above were the bag (used for a guild swap), pencil-case and the two cushions that have been my focus this week.

  1. Focus on stock for my Etsy Store.
    • Chair Bags (x2 sets)
1 set is completed – posted on Etsy and blogged here
    • Oven Mitts (x1 set)
I finished one for a friend posted here
    • Coffee Cup Sleeves (x2)
Completed 3!! and posted in my store….A few kind folks also posted them on pinterest. Blogged here and here
    • Pouches/ Cases (x2)
I did complete two pouches, just not the two I had planned. Both landed up being gifts. The pencil-case one from Patchwork Please was a lot of fun to make and featured above.
    • Set of place mats (x1 Stretch goal)
      Not surprisingly did not start
  2. Make a Pin cushion (from Patchwork Please) and a travel sewing pouch
Pin cushion complete and blogged here, also posted on the Zakka Along 2.0 Flickr site
  3. Make a travel baby quilt for charity  (~30x20in.)
    Not started
  4. Madrona Road Challenge – Mini Quilt
I have managed to get 2 1/2 blocks done. I will have to get a move on or rethink my approach since this Challenge ends May 12th.

My General goals continue:

  1. Try to eat and exercise to plan
I think as far as food goes – this month was much more on plan
  2. Blog regularly using my new schedule
    On target
